Engine light?? Cat probs?

    99 Accord LX 80-90k miles

    Does a check engine light come on at a given time interval- say every 30,000
    miles or just when a problem is detected??

    Dealer says it needs cat converter $600+

    Private repair shop in town says that's the 3rd one this week the dealer has
    said needs CC????

    It comes on for problems only. Check your emissions warranty. You may
    still be covered for anything that makes that light turn on.

    I seriously doubt it needs a new cat unless you've been putting
    something weird in the gas tank. What does the private repair shop say
    about the ECU's malfunction code?
