    Hi,

I'm having a small leaking in head exhaust pipe (A pipe I think the mechanic
called so). Most of it is still good but have some leaking in the soft
region. It looks like there is some kind of metal matrix wrapped on it. This
leaking should relate to the exhaust smell in the car when stopping in the
traffic light (sure not from other cars cause this happens in the parking
lot). Since the whole pipe is quite expensive, is there some kind of tape
that can endure high temperature and I can just wrap this soft region to
block the leaking for a while? Thanks for any suggestions!

  2. Any spares shop will have a suitable product. There's one called Muffler
Bandage. Don't expect any of these to last too long. A muffler shop may be
able to replace the rusted portion if the rest of the system is acceptable.

not to sound rude, but wrap it with tape? are you a mexican or something? if
the leak is causing an issue, just get it replaced. no sense in doing
something halfway when it should be done all the way.

I have experience with muffler tapes. They will last a few days, maybe a few
    weeks depending on the weather.
I second the idea of replacing the bad portion only, if the rest of the
pipes appear to be able to last at least a year.

I probably shouldn't admit this, but here goes.
On my '92 Accord, when the flex joint started to leak, I got a 24''
long piece of 6'' galvanized heat duct at Lowes and four stainless steel
worm clamps. I cut the duct to length and wrapped it around the flex and
clamped it tight. It lasted about five years until the front pipe rusted
through. Local muffler shop sawed off the flex and welded in a new
piece. Cost was about $100. I recently found a place that sells the
whole pipe new for $200. installed. Good Luck! bob

  9. I advise you to take it to several muffler shops and request that they cut
out the defective section of pipe and just replace the defective section
and leave everything else as is. If the muffler shop supervisor refuses
this request--say "thanks anyway" and find a muffler shop supervisor that
will do what you want. A tape repair will not solve the problem except on
    a very short term basis.

Cheap way is to wrap a beer can around it and clamp it with hose clamps. Did
that on and old chevy I owned and talked to the next owner three years later
and he told me he like my fix that was still there. LOL
