    Hi,

Just bought an Odyssey EX and also the extended warranty - 6 years,
75k miles, with a $50 deductable for $1000. Most of the posts I've
seen would consider this a waste. I consider it pretty good insurance
for a couple reasons. There are so many electric gadgets on the car,
the big ones being the magic doors. Two friends of ours have both had
their odyssey's in for door repair at 4 years and the costs was near
$800. Also, here in Florida on the ocean, the A/C seems to go out
within 4-5 years, and that has ususally cost me above $500. I'd
assume it is more for the odyssey.

Any comments? I can get a refund if I don't use it - supposedly.

You might check with the contact I've provided before, a woman that
sells Honda Care policies from a dealer on the east coast. She quoted
    me $750 for a $0 deductible 7yr / 100K policy for my 03 Accord. I
don't know what it would be for an Odyssey, but I think you'll do a
lot better. You're paying significantly more for a lesser policy. She
says they charge $40 over cost.

(You could also use a quote to get your dealer to rewrite the policy
    at a lower cost.)

    Good luck.

You see it for what it is........ Insurance. Just be aware that the car
companies make lots of money from sales of these policies. That simply
means that the odds are, you will lose out, no matter how many stories you
hear about it paying off for some people. If you are satified with the
cost and go into it with your eyes open, go for it. Personally, I never
take extended warranties on anything I buy.

You're absolutely right, of course. It is insurance of sorts.

I've had two extended warranties, one on a 95 Camry (a dependable car)
and one on my 2000 Passat wagon (a great car but a bit less
dependable). Somewhat different terms, but the Camry was about $500
and the Passat was $1200. Even on the Camry I got back more than I
spent (valve stem seals, axle bearing and shaft, and a couple of
    smaller things).

In my Passat we just replaced two tie rod ends, the heater mirror
glass, and the rear wiper / washer assembly. The bill was just shy of
$1200 which was paid by the warranty, so I've broken even on that one
    as well.

Your mileage may vary, of course.

    FYI...I just traded my '01 Odyssey (31k miles)for an '04 yesterday. I
am getting back a pro-rated amount for my unused HC 7/100/0 warranty
on the '01. The amount of the refund I am getting is about $525 for a
warranty that cost $900 in April of '01.

I took the same deal on my 2003 Civic Hybrid.
I even spent an extra $65 to reduce it to $0 deductible.
I think it's 8 years, 100,000 miles. I'l hit the mileage in about four
years, so I don't remember the years.

There are two unfavorable parts to this policy.
Although I have zero deductible, I really have a $1200 deductible, because
that's how much I would lose if I exercise the coverage.
The return is only at the end of the 8 year warranty period, even though
the coverage will have expired at the mileage limit in around four years.
