    Hi all...

you may have seen my posts in this group in the past...

    I once owned a 88 accord (400,000, never missed a beat) a 1997 honda
accord (loved it, 'pimped' it out, but in a very classy,
hard-to-notice way) and my wife has a 2003 honda accord.

I had this dream when I was a kid... to own a corvette... many men
have this desire... but I am only 28.

I am not a pateint man. I did not want to wait until I was 65 to get a
vette. I wanted it now, while I still looked young and maybe some of
the college girls will not notice my receeding hairline as I buzz by
    the campus, just for stares...

I once owned a chevy blazer... after selling it, I vowed never to buy
an american car again. So I caved with the vette. My wife said "but
your vow!!!" I said "It is a vette! Chevy certainly put in extra time
    and effort for this thing!"

    boy was I wrong...

got a nice looking 1992 LT1 v8 coupe, targa top and all. Man is it
fast, and man is it pretty! "Arrest-me-red" is the color my boss
called it. I can fix my hair in the paint it is so shiny! And best of
    all... SIX SPEED MANUAL!

Well, of course I have had it in the shop 3 times this month... left
me stranded once, and gives me a "service engine soon" light about
once every 3 days... all the codes it gives are un-understandable to a
    non-mechanic...

so, having suffered enough, I am selling it to an unsuspecting fool.
Went to my local Honda dealer today... needed to test drive something
    reliable.

What do you guys think about:
1998 CRV, 77,000 miles, that wierd built in 4 wheel drive system, cd,
automatic blah blah blah.... about $8,800

and a 2001 Accord coupe, white, auto (really want a 5 speed), cd, etc
etc... $10,800, and of course the dealer said "we can come down off of
    that"...

my budget is around $10,000 and $11,000. I wish I could buy my car
back, but at the same time, somethign different might be nice.

Anyway, hope the group can forgive me. I promise if the S2000 were in
my immediate price range at the time i bought the vette, i would have
gotten the S2000 and i would be busy driving it right now having a
gay-ole-time, and not asking for forgiveness!

    take care!

Um!? I don't know where you live, but I suspect all those Honda Accords are
American cars. My wife's '03 Accord EX was made in Ohio. The engine was
made in Ohio. The only Japanese component is the transmission and that has
been the subject of a recall campaign.

  4. What do you guys think about:
    AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!!!!!!

I have one and it has been in the shop numerous times for numerous recalls,
fixes and a blown engine. All with less than 80K miles.

    RUN RUN AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Um, if you want a 5 speed why settle for auto????? That's not the only dealer
in town, is it? If so, try autotrader.com and cars.com. Plenty of choices
    there!
For that, you can buy a brand new Corolla, Sentra, Lancer..... better than the
    used Hondas you listed.

    HAHA! thanks father!
no, i know all cars we buy are "MADE" in america. Heck, I live in
Alabama, we have a mercedes plant, a hundai (or however you spell it)
    plant and a honda plant...

it is the engineering I am assuming that is different.

anyway, thanks for the advice on getting a new car for that price
rather than a used honda, but I prefer something I am used to and
    knowledgable about.

I am the kind of guy who doesnt just want 'transportation with a cd
player'. I really want something more functional, more fun, and
somethign that may catch an eye or two... I suppose given my bugest my
options are limited. However, I figured an accord coupe is the answer
(fun, kind of looks like a sports car lol, has a back seat, albeit
small but bigger than my vettes non-backseat, and reliable)

The CRV actually drives kind of fun... i feel alot higher than I think
I am, and I think this has to do with the design on the steering
column. And even though it only has 120 HP, it still felt pretty
    zippy...

but, if i am going to get a "truck' i just assume get a toyota 4x4...
dont know, i wish i had my 97 accord back :^(

    thanks guys!

You'll be cursing that bus-like steering wheel after a week.

    It is 126hp btw.

ill take your advice HE HATE.
are you one of those people who despises Hondas? Or do you actually
like them, just had a bad experience with the CRV? IM looking for a
    slightly non-biased opinion.
    you seem sincere

Well, I've owned 5 Hondas in my lifetime. Most were reliable, some were
    disasterous (CR-V & Passport).

I am looking at the Accord Hybrid and Acura RL as my next car.

The Passport is an Isuzu with a honda label.

Your point is what? BMW X3 isn't really a BMW either, but if it ends up being
problematic, whose rep is tarnished? Afterall, it was BMW that thought it good
enough to stamp their emblem on it.

Honda should be held to the same standard.

  12. Well, Honda's reputation was tarnished a little but I am not going to
hold it against the Honda engineering staff. That POS has nothing in
    common with any real Honda.

BTW, I just saw a Pisspoort today sporting a big "Honda" decal and a
smaller "Powered by Honda" smaller one. Makes me want to finish work
    on my telematic dope slapper.
