    Hello;

Purchased new 2003 honda CRV EX with auto.
    I do a combination of freeway/expressway/city driving.

Best fuel economy I've ever gotten was driving on hiway 17 to santa cruz and
back, no detours, straight hiway 17 driving, got a bit over 23 mpg.

many times most of my driving will be on the hiway/freeway with some
expressway driving and a few miles of city driving (when I exit the freeway)
    to get home.
My best fuel economy for that has never been over 22mpg.

I am not a lead foot, although I do use my a/c alot.

what kind of MPG have other owners gotten doing similiar driving.

My Honda's lots different from yours, but I wanted to ask people the same
question, along with what speed seems to give the best fuel efficiency. I have a
    1991 Civic, 5-speed manual transmission.

I am getting 41-44 miles per gallon, with mostly suburban driving; not too many
frequent stops. On the highway with the cruise control set at 67 mph to 70 mph,
I seem to get closer to 41 mpg. I think my optimal speed is around 40-50 mph.
    Anyone else notice this?

I understand new cars have to break in. The best fuel mileage occurs in
    subsequent years?

Also, as I've posted a few times now, my mileage went up 10 to 20% after I
replaced my PCV valve last spring. Now I'm trying to clean the PCV valve with a
little WD-40 every other oil change or so and before long trips.

Don't even THINK about measuring your mileage until you have at *least* 10K
on the odometer. It will be the pits before that. Rings are still bedding
    in and all that.

Hope you have not driven steady-state rpms for any length of time with that
new motor. Also hope you have changed the factory oil at the specified
    interval, and NOT sooner.

With my 94 Civic DX w/159k on it and a 5-Spd, I can go 60-100mph and
still get anywhere between 38-48mpg. IOW, I can go 60mph steady on one
tank and get 38mpg, and go 80mph the next tank and still get 38mpg, or
I might get 42, or 46, or some other number. I do know that the best
tank of gas I ever got was going cross-country in Tennessee going
west, when I got 485 miles on a tank and put in 10 gallons to fill it
up. The last LONG trip I took was going from OKC to San Antonio, and I
hit traffic in Dallas and Austin both on the way there, and averaged
75 mph on the way back with no traffic problems. Every single tank
with 5 people in the car and luggage (and 100+ lbs of speakers) was
about 38mpg both there and back.
