    Re Fuel Filters:

My 1991 Civic owner's manual says replace every 60k miles/4 years.

It seems Honda's online "owner's link" maintenance schedule available via
    https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/login.asp?brand=honda doesn't specify replacement
    ever, only "inspect."

All the manuals available at http://www.honda.co.uk/owner/workshopmanuals2.html
for Hondas circa 1991 say replace every 24k miles/2 years.

Given these conflicts, what fuel filter replacement frequency on circa early
1990s Hondas do others here follow?

  2. Just changed mine on 93 Del Sol Si with 96K and 94 Del Sol VTEC at 100K.
No other reason than it seemed like the right thing to do.

Sounds like they updated their data. Their latest'n'greatest recomendation
    is every 24K/2yrs.

Or you could just wait for the car to break down.
    Then you'll know for sure.

Will replacing it every 2 years instead of every four years ruin your finances?
I kind of recall them costing about $50; is $12/yr really such a big deal?

  5. If those are really Honda manuals sounds like Honda folded to pressure from
U.K dealers. Things are "different" there in the auto business - very few
aftermarket parts, even refurbished, and broken legs are not uncommon as a
result of bucking the "norms" or soured business deals. Did you see the
    movie Snatch?"-)
My '90 Civic Helm manual specifies 60K miles. My '99 Integra has no change
schedule and is marked in the appropriate section as "change when pressure
drops below......". My 2K Accord has no engine compartment fuel filter -
it's inside the fuel tank and again change would be based on fuel pressure
drop. IIRC there was a recent model, '94-'97 accord V6(?) where there was
an engine compartment fuel filter but it was impossible to get at for
removal without (re)moving the engine. About that time, Honda seems to
have dropped its reqts. for scheduled filter replacement on other models.

Certainly in recent years, the gasoline is of much better quality as far as
residues and lacquering goes, partly due to the tighter controls on
emissions. There are practically no unsaturates in it and whereas a few
years ago, gasoline would go bad if stored in an air tight can in 4-6months
or so it now keeps much longer.

Sounds as good as any explanation I have seen to date, George.

I'll go looking for "Snatch." :)
Okay. I'm going to stick with my 4 yr/60k mile replacement schedule for the fuel
    filter, then.

    Thank you.

  7. Well it's not about the auto business in particular - more a parody on the
criminal scene in the U.K..[caution: rated *RRR* for strong language]:)

I replace mione every 2 years, $8 every 2 years is not bad.

BTW I use Purolater only for the fuel filters.
