Honda Accord VP, 2002. I use fully sinthetic oil, Mobil 1, 5W-20. How
frequently it should be changed, each 5000 miles or may be somewhat
    longer period?

Escape tube is black inside (car has around 50.000 miles, but it was
already slightly black when i bought it used and car had 18,000 miles),
does it means that car burning oil? may be it depend on gas used. I use
87 (manual says 86 or higher).

    thanks,

  2. That's overkill. It adds nothing to your engine that simple and
inexpensive dino oil won't do for your engine.

sorry, what is dino oil? Is it just any mineral one?

  4. yeah.

Dino oil at 5K intervals is plenty sufficient for that engine.

I would increase the oil change intervals to every 10,000miles (or
more) to compensate for the extreme price of the Mobel-1, Or go back to
the regulars stuff (unless the car spends it's weekends at the
    racetrack).

  7. No, it's not.

    $1.50/quart vs. $7.50/quart.

Even 3K oil changes with regular oil don't make up for even 10K oil
    changes with synthetic.

And since your engine won't respond any better with synthetic, why
bother? Do 5K changes with regular and be done with it.

Do you also put 93 octane fuel in the tank because it's "better"?

the price of synthetic oil is $5.25/quart (not 7.50). It is compensated
    by changing oil by myself.

Engine should not responde better (what it means?, run faster?). One
might see the advantage of good maintance (oil changes) on a long
period of time, when your car will start to fume, i.e. will need to
"make" the engine, it completely depends on maintance of oil changes
    (and oil quality too).

if manual of car said "93 octane" i would, but it sais "86"

    Please answer the question.

I'm guessing you do--which means you don't really know what you're
doing, AND don't *want* to know.

  12. No, it's not--because you could ALSO change the oil yourself using
    regular oil.

Which is all the car needs.

You're throwing your money away, but you don't want to hear that.
Something in you demands that you spend money for the sake of spending
    money.

a serious response would be to feel free to go by the maximum allowed
    time in the owners manual.

if they wanna use synthetic, and run it to the max allowed interval, fine.

personally, id feel slightly better off buying a used car from a private
party that changed the oil regularly with synthetic on their own, rather
than someone who took it to the spiffy lube whenever they noticed the
indicator light (or was that the oil pressure light? i dunno!)

  16. Unless you drive under what the user manual describes as severe conditions
it makes absolutely no sense to change any type of recommended grade motor
oil any less than 5000 miles. I personally do not see the advantage of
synthetic oil [maybe if I lived in the Artic Circle] but for those that use
it, change at what the manufacturer recommends. I use 5000 miles because it
is convenient for the family in that oil changes are done at 20, 25, 30
thousand miles etc. The mentality in that if the recommendation is 7000
miles that 3000 must be better and maybe even weekly oil changes would make
your engine last forever does not make sense. Years ago poorly designed
engines would allow gasoline and other contaminants to enter the oil in
relatively damaging quantities but that is not the case anymore particularly
for well engineered engines like Hondas. If you car is burning oil you would
see that the quantity of oil in the engine is going down between changes via
    what the dipstick shows.

My 98 Civic has been getting Mobel-1 for the past 250000km and for the
past 2 years, I have increased my internavl to 15k (20k on some
occasions). I also got rid of the K&N air filter since I started
increasing change interval. If I were using the regular oil (which has
happened on a few occasions), I would need to be religious about the 5k
intervals. Reason being, my driving tends to be a bit extra, and the
regular oils burn-out faster then the mobel-1. Also, there's noticeable
color change with regular oil (gets darker more quickly), which isn't
the case with the Mobel (or not as quickly).

  18. 5000 miles is a good interval for natural oil. Synthetic should be good
for at least 7500 to 10,000 miles. Mobil 1 now has an extended
performance oil good for 15,000 miles.
If the exhaust is a little sooty don't worry about it. If the car burns
more than 1 quart of oil every 3000 miles under normal driving
conditions, you should have a mechanic check it out.

thanks. I also was thinking in soemthing like each 7kmiles.
Apparently there is no any noticable consuming of oil, so sooty exhaust
pipe is probably because of frequent starting/stopping of engine
    (because driving in the city).

and/or the brand/type of gas. dont worry about it. on my 1998 civic, it
has a indicator that changes color every 7500 miles. i think.
