    I have a 1987 Honda Accord LX
When I bought the car the owner told me she somehow lost the gas cap
and had to replace it. The new gas cap is just a plain unvented metal
cap. Is the cap for this car supposed to be unvented? I am just
wondering because when I remove the cap to fill up the tank there is a
    large release of air. Thanks

Factory caps often do that too.
It still doesn't mean it's the "proper" cap.

Modern gas caps are unvented as part of the evaporative emissions control
    regimen.
