GM admits it flucked up big time

  1. So, the bit about the royal family giving cash to schools which turn out
    raving lunatics - that is:

    Fiction?
    or
    Fiction?

  2. So where in Saudi Arabia is it legal for women to drive cars or not be
legally subservient to men, and what's bin Laden's popularity rating
    among the Saudi Arabian public?

History shows that powerful nutcases usually aren't on the fringes of
    society but in the mainstream.

  3. He's not my clone, and your answer doesn't depend on him. You said
SUVs getting the same fuel economy as sedans wouldn't affect the
amount of oil we imported but that this was just your opinion.
Because gas mileage and oil consumption can be measured, it's silly to
state that as an opinion rather than as a conclusion based on facts.
Are you one of those people who doesn't like to be confused by the
    facts? ;)

  4. I apologize for lumping all SUVs together, both the reasonably-sized
ones (RAV4, Forester, etc.)and the stupid ones that are far larger
    than needed.

  5. Here's a tourist's guide to driving in France, as seen in the movie
    Ronin:

The actors were in the moving cars in every scene in which they were
visible, except, oddly, for one where De Niro and another man are
cruising leisurely down a road with no other cars.

Yeah... I was thinking about that in my posts, but also didn't make the
distinction between the large->humungous ones & the smaller ones.

Depends... since said agenda is set by men, do the Saudi women - or a
certain percentage of them - consider the restrictions to be reasonable &
acceptable, or do they also consider them to be in the nutcase category &
    frustrating?

with a few nutcase ragheads that see blowing up innocents as a
    Two different topics involved here...

Saudi is a friend of the US and everything they do is approved by the
    government.
The US has its share of nutcases at the top.
They give money, weapon and all kinds of assistance to keep on
    suppressing women.
Even stone them to death in public and cut their heads off on the
    market square.

No facts. Repeating facts doesn't make them any less true.
You can argue about whether Japanese cars are of higher quality. You
CANNOT argue that they don't have a reputation for quality cars.
Please try to understand the difference and how it impacts the Big-3.
I'd disagree, but that is NOT the point.
Again, I'd disagree. In fact, they fought vehemently against raising
CAFE standards just a couple years ago. But again, that is NOT the
    point.
I don't like CR's unscientific surveys. However, their surveys did
show that American cars had much lower quality. Therefore the public
is convinced. Since most people have no understanding of statistics
and why the surveys might be incorrect, and lacking any other
competing surveys, they are the standard.
    By who?
    Your point?
Arguable, but again, not the point.
Bent and partial statistics on your part.
Huh? They missed the boat. They even admitted it in the full page
advertisement they ran that started this thread. Go back and read the
    story.
Not anymore. But again, you don't seem to have captured the point.
They make a profit too. Odd, that.

They are also still making a profit. YOU tell ME the difference. Tell
me why GM is bankrupt (or going to be very soon without taxpayer
    money).

    You're absolutely right.

I've posted here multiple times about TQM and Deming's work in Japan
starting in the 1950's. About how he preached that you should
constantly improve quality instead of worrying about the bottom line.
About how this is a LONG TERM strategy that builds customer confidence
and brand loyalty and wins in the end.

We're at "the end". The long term strategy is won. Notice though that
the GM fan boys here are still as pig headed as GM is: blaming the
customer for not buying what they build and claiming "more of the
same" is the best strategy of the future. Some people are just too
foolish to look and see the light, even when it's about to blind them.

You are the fanyboy. You cross-posted this thread, just to start up a flame
war between Domestic and Foreign fans. I'm sure your buddies in the Toyota
newsgroup are just loving you for starting that. As for GM people blaming
the consumer for not buying there vehicles, I feel the need to remind you
that the #2 selling vehicle in the US is a Chevy, right behind a Ford. Now,
if you are done with your flame war, it would be nice if you left.

Saw it a while back, but fun to see it again.

I bought a Bertazzoni gas range a few months back. It is painted in the same
factory as the Lamborghini. I guess that is as close as I'll ever come to
    having one.

  13. It is, and you'd know that if you were even slightly aware of news
    events.
You need to be more careful with your use of the word "fact".

Still, I fail to see the issue.

If I have a midsize SUV like my Avalanche or a Suburban or an Excursion or a
Land Cruiser I take up the same parking space as a small compact SUV like
    my wife's Vue or a Rav4 or a CX6.

Perhaps not, but you almost certainly share DNA (in one way or another).

    You said
As a matter of fact, that isn't what I said. Please try again.

It was not silly for me to state my opinion, since I didn't have verifiable
facts. Unlike you and your clone, I don't try to pass my opinions off as
    facts.
Since you inexplicably seem to require a conclusion based on facts this
time, feel free to enlighten me when you aquire them.
