GM admits it flucked up big time

  1. Why would anybody be jealous of impotence?

  2. Toyota (corporate - not dealership) original warranty, or did you add
another plan on top of the original?

You won't catch me arguing in favor of any bailout. Loan or not,
    they're wrong.
I don't have time to identify all of GM's obvious mistakes. Here are a
few: First, GM failed to adopt TQM and improve quality. It's a LONG
TERM strategy that the Japanese adopted in the 40'5 and 50's. The
results of TWM are long term customer confidence and quality products.
GM's preference was for "cost cutting" and producing a cheaper product
that would increase SHORT TERM profits. Note that the Japanese now
enjoy a reputation for quality cars that bring buyers back again and
again, while GM has a reputation for crappy cars no one buys again.
The proof is in the pudding.

Second, GM refused to acknowledge where the auto market was going.
Instead of taking a small hit today to guarantee a market tomorrow,
they continued to build for quarterly profit. Trucks and SUV's ruled
the day and they didn't listen to anyone who told them that it was a
bad strategy. Whoops - proof in the pudding again.

Third, every time GM got someone on the Board who had a clue about how
to run a company, they pushed him off. They didn't want to modernize,
they didn't want to change. Innovation was not only not encouraged, it
was actively discouraged. Buck the trend and you're out of a job.
Aluminum cyl's without liners? That's not engineering, that's
    stupidity.
You want to know how GM thinks? They bought a majority stake in Saab
in the 1990's. Saab had a rock solid, powerful 4-cyl turbo known for
easily running 300K miles with outstanding power and tuneability for
more power. Did GM wholeheartedly endorse Saabs motor and adapt the
engines / technology to their line? No, they ordered Saab to install a
crappy (30K timing belt changes) Opel V6 in the cars because "a V6 is
what American buyers want". WRONG. Not only did they alienate the
loyal people actually buying Saabs, they blew a golden opportunity to
    innovate in their own line.

That's just one example, my typing time is limited.
    All bailouts are wrong.
I'm not a Toyota fan, but they aren't asking for UG Gov't money so I
don't really care what they do. In fact, when the first 25B
"modernization" loan program for the big three passed Congress a few
months ago, Toyota and Nissan were eligible to participate but both
declined to apply for the loans.

Why do you anti-suv guys turn every suv discussion into something sexual?
I get it! You see suv's as reminders of your sexual inadequacy.
No wonder you don't like suv's.

  5. We're not anti-SUV guys. Rather, we would prefer to send as little money as
possible to the country which arranged for the death of 3000 Americans in
Manhattan a few years back. You may have heard about it. This country is not
yet to the point where we can send nothing to the perpetrators, but we *can*
    send less.

Two parents and a kid can get around just fine in a mid-size sedan instead
of an Escalade, unless they are traitors and think it's OK that we continue
to finance the murderers of 3000 Americans in Manhattan.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there
are about 43,000 people killed in fatal car accidents each year in the
    United States.

things taught to you by AM radio talk show slobs.

And what country would that be?

You may have heard about it. This country is not
    That would be an understatement.
If all the suv's suddenly were capable matching the mileage of the average
sedan, the difference in the amount of imported oil would be negligible, if
    noticeable at all. (my opinion)
I'm sure you'd prefer to continue to finance the murderers of more than 2400
    Americans at Pearl Harbor.

  9. Were you too young to understand the news just after 9/11? Saudi Arabia, of
course. One of our worst enemies.

Yeah. That's the same thing. <--sarcasm

  10. I want to get a license plate for my Supra (Targa) that says SML PNS.

Of course, I would GLADLY prove to anyone of the female persuasion that it
is certainly NOT the case! ;P

Homicide is merely the act of killing a human. It is not necessarily a
crime. Murder is a legal conclusion. It is a certain type of illegal
    homicide.

For example, when a medical examiner determines cause of death, they
may determine that it was homicide, which only means that the person
was killed by another. That does not necessarily mean that the killing
of the person was murder. The person may have been killed during self-
defense. The killing may have been an accident.

You have may have heard the term "justifiable homicide" before? This
simply means that a person was killed (hence homicide) but it is not a
crime (e.g. manslaughter or murder) because there was a legal
    justification for the killing.

The word homicide comes from the root "hom," which is derived from
homo sapien (or human), and the suffix "cide" refers to the act of
killing. Similarly, the term suicide comes from the latin root "sui"
which means self, and "cide" which is the act of killing.

  12. Why don't you go around your house and see how many items say "Made In
    Japan". Start with your TV.

That was many, many years ago (67, to be precise) and the Japanese are now
    a very close ally.

Reminds me of a guy here in town that had a bumper sticker on his Dodge
Colt that said, "Remember Pearl Harbor: Boycott Japanese Products!"

I wonder if he ever lifted the hood and read the tag that said "Made In
    Japan".

What's different other than the timeline? Biggest difference I can see is
that we "knew" to expect "something" from Al Qaeda. We didn't know that your
friends and beneficiaries were going to attack us.
The only other difference I can see is that instead of declaring war on our
attackers, we bombed the hell out of an easier target that didn't turn out
to be so easy, after all. Thanks to that fiasco, you can add another 4200+
to your tally and Al qaeda hardly had to lift a finger.

BTW, I'd like to see your evidence that proves that Saudi Arabia " arranged
for the death of 3000 Americans". I know that there was talk that there *may
have been* "factions" within SA that supported the attack, but as far as I
know, no credible entity ever accused SA of being behind it.

  14. Yes, I'm sure you'd like to see the evidence. But, I'm afraid it might
    interrupt your television time.

Canada supplies more oil to the US then any other country.
Why not? Because it was longer ago then 9/11? The Japanese Government
can't be trusted, they have proved that time and again. You keep sending
your $$$ to Japan, while sending our own industries into the toilet. If
WWIII breaks out, Japan will supply us with the weapons, and equipment we
    need, right? <--sarcasm

Is it an extended warranty? Did you have to pay extra for it? Because I
can't find any evidence (even from Toyota's own website) that they offer
anything more then the 36/36 on the Avalon.

The two newest ones were made in China, unfortunately. I'm too lazy to go

Yes, I know that Japan is an ally. But, I still think the analogy is a fair
    one.

since 9/11, reading nothing but restaurant menus.
