headlight adjustment civic si 1999

Discussion in 'Civic' started by Mike Cunningham, Nov 29, 2006.

  1. hello,

I would like to know if the headlights are adjustable on my civic? My left
headlight is pointing up and doesn't shine on the road. Any suggestion on
how to adjust these would be great.

    Thanks,

    Mike

They are adjustable. Unfortunately you may find you only have a VERTICAL
    adjustment.

At the very outboard of the lamp, atop the rad support, there will be a
small round hole. If you peer inside this hole, you will see what appears
to be a section of gear teeth. Insert a Phillips screwdriver into this
hole. Rotating the screwdriver will effect changes in vertical aim.

Since Canada usually receives the same lamps as the US, we are bound by
certain (certifiably insane) NHTSA regulations that prohibit horizontal
adjustment unless three glass "VHAD" tits are present. You may verify this
by checking the rear face of the lamp unit (facing the engine). Towards the
inboard end of the lamp, there should be a thumbwheel. If there is no
obvious thumbwheel, you have USDM lamps with no horizontal adjustment.
