Hitch and towing capacity for '02 Accord LX?

I've noticed that it's possible to get a hitch for these, but I'm
wondering if it'll work for my application. I'd like to tow a
motorcycle that weighs about 450 lb. Not really sure how heavy the
trailer would be, but I'd guess 100 lb? It is possible to get a hitch
that will support this kind of towing, or does that go beyond the
    Accord capabilities? TIA!

Although FWD cars are generally not recommend as tow vehicles
an Accord can accommodate a class one hitch that is more than
capable of towing your bike. Just take it easy if you tow
    when the roadway is wet.

I towed a sailboat weighing about 500 pounds including the trailer
behind my '88 Accord for years. Had no problems. You must allow more
stopping room since the brakes are not designed for trailer use. I had a
drawtite hitch installed at U-Haul. Worked well. My '88 Accord has a 5
speed stick. You might ask if the automatic transmission requires a
    fluid cooler to be installed.

(Yawn) Yet more hogwash from the idiot...

All cars have a "tow rating".
    Wow Mikey...your a genius!

Whenever it rains here, I have always put on a heavy trailer, and drove as
    fast as I could!

Now...with your spectacular insight...I stand corrected!!

Thanks for sharing your AWESOME wisdom here Mikey!

    Thanks again!

Not understanding the known limits of a FWD vehicles and driving
fast towing a trailer with a FWD vehicle in the rain,
is exactly what one would expect from the genius that suggested
using a pipe on a breaker bar to increase the leverage. Rant on,
the guys in our shops can use the laughs in these troublesome
    times. LOL

    Work smarter...not harder!

And if you remember, the guy said he did not have any air/impact tools.

Tell us Mikey, how would your mechanics get off a 250 ft. lb. seized nut in
the driveway with no air tools?

Oh I see...your mechanics didn't get all the information.
Dood, as long as you post here, nothing can be more funny. Your ridiculous
lies, and some of the shit you pull out of your ass is hilarious!

And you can tell your shop guys I'm up to hearing directly from them at any
time. I pretty sure anybody associated with you...well...just isn't up to
    speed in the brains department.

  7. Actually, it is kind of hard to control who you associate with in the
work place. My guess is that these guys (if they actually exist)
could tell some real ROFLs about old Khunt.

No tow rating there! Oh wait...yes there is....2000lbs for those who
don't want to follow the link. Seems to me that if it were not
recommended, Ford wouldn't have said diddly about it's towing capacity.
For being such a blatant pro-domestic/anti-import shill, I'm suprised
    you didn't notice this first.

Before you jump all over the technicality saying "I said cars!!!", keep
in mind that an Accord has a longer wheel base than an Escape (by about
3"). And if you cashed out and got the 6 cylinder, you get 10 more
horsepower than the Escape XLT. THEREFORE...since they are both FWD,
both have approximately the same wheelbase and horsepower, not to
mention the Accord having a lower center of gravity, that if you can tow
with the Escape, you can tow with the Accord. Someone please correct me
if I'm wrong, but doesn't the owners manual for most cars usually
contain a section about towing things with it?

I suppose it bears pointing out that his stunning advice of "take it
easy if you tow when the roadway is wet" applies to ANYTHING pulling ANY
sort of trailer, be it an Accord towing a 450lb motorcycle or a 30 ton
    53' trailer behind a long-nosed Freightliner with a sleeper.

"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's
mouth and remove all doubt." Words to live by, Mr. ****.

Short answer - I dunno - but I've towed some bikes this year and
traveled with folks who were towing bikes. My observations:

I tow with a Dodge Ram truck with towing package and automatic
transmission. Owner's manual says to disengage the overdrive when
towing. With a light bike and trailer I don't know it's back there
regardless of what I do with the overdrive. With a heavy trailer and
two bikes I have to drive without the overdrive. The logic seems to
be to work the transmission less and the engine more.

I traveled with a guy who used a very light 1-bike trailer and towed
it with an older Toyota Corolla. No problem. Probably a 5-speed
    although I didn't check.

His very light trailer was a converted personal watercraft trailer.
He added an aluminum center rail for the bike and an aluminum ramp
that bolts on. Low profile, wide tires. Very nice setup.

Thank you everyone for all the responses. I did notice the tow rating
in my owner's manual, but just wasn't sure about the practicality of
the available hitches for it, etc. BTW, it's the LX w/ the 2.3 4 cyl
and 5 speed, so I don't anticipate too many probs w/ overheating. And
most of the towing will be at sea level. Thanks again!
