Honda Accord 2004 Back Brakes Worn Already

I've been hearing a squealing when backing out of my drive way, so I
took my 2004 Honda Accord Coup to the dealer. The car has 24K miles.

The dealer claims that the back brakes are worn out, and it will cost
me a little over $300 to repair.

I'd be interested in any informed opinions out there? It seems very
unusual to have the back breaks wear out before the front. It seems
like a manufacturing or installation problem to me to cause the
    premature wear.

    Thanks for your time.

It's not uncommon on this generation - the rear pads on my 03 EX lasted
only 25,000 and there have been others reporting the same thing in here.

Do you have drum rear brakes, or are they disk brakes?

I am surprised. My Prelude is still on its original brakes at 60,000 miles
and the dealer tells me they are probably good to 80k or more. My wife's
Pilot at 36k miles was reported as being only 20% worn and our 03 Civic at
30 looks good to 60k. Other than pad replacement what else are they doing
    for $300.00.

Is your coupe the V6 with the TCS system? if so the TCS system is probably
the culprit. Keep it off after the pads are replaced and see if they last
    longer.

For $300.00 they probably want to replace the rotors as well as the pads.
The dealer could resurface the rotors and then install new pads for a lot
    less.

Unless the pads are scored or damaged, resurfacing them is a waste as well.
