Joys, I have only had my 2004 Accord Ex 6 sedan for 3 weeks now and today I
received a safety recall notice for the Automatic Transmission Second Gear
    Inspection!.

Certain operating conditions can result in heat build up in the transmission
second gear set on certain 2003-2004 Accord V6 sedans and coupes. This
could result in gear tooth chipping or in very rare cases , gear breakage.
Gear failure could result in transmission lock-up and a crash could occur.
    Oh Joy!

If you have under 24,000km all they do is perform a simple revision to the
cooler return line. Over 24,000km they inspect the affected gear for heat
discolouration and either install an oil jet kit or replace the
    transmission.
Has anyone had any experience with this problems or thoughts or opinion on
    the fix?

It's the same transmission as the Odyssey, and they know all about it
    over there.

we inspect the second gear through the speed sensor hole, if its discolored
because of heat according to a table of pictures, the tranny will get
replaced. if the second gear shows no signs of damage or discoloration, we
install an oil jet kit on ALL trannys that don't require replacement. the
same recall first came out on the odysseys. and its not the same tranny as
    the odyssey.

  4. In some small details, perhaps--but obviously the design is identical,
if the problem AND the fix is identical.

Isn't the actual oil jet kit identical between the two, as well?

the oil jet kit on the accord uses a banjo fitting, and the odyssey uses a
flange with 2 10mm bolts to attach it.

    I have a 2004 Accord EX v6 but I have not receive a recall notice. I
checked the Honda's ownerlink and it does not mention that my car has any
    recall.

I remember reading the papers on this recall. Is my car excempted? Since I
got the car 8 months ago, I notice that from first to second gear seems to
be a "jump" or a gear grind just small enough to feel vibration on the
gas pedal. This normally occurs on "cold" start. I do not notice this
    during very hot summer days.

What are the symptoms to watch for?

If you are referring to the same recall that was mentioned in the
newspapers a couple of weeks ago--it involved the instrument panels dimmer
control. It failed in some cars due to heat build up. The Honda dealership
can check your Honda on their data base and tell you if it's effected by
    the recall.

If you are referring to the same recall that was mentioned in the
ia was referrring to the tranny recall on -3-04 accords. you're
talking about the multiplex recall which affected very few earlier
accords. we've seen on in the last 2 months.

Hmm if the transmission recall has been corrected on Sept 2003. Why did
Hank (original Topic posting) get a recall notice for a car he purchased
sometime in July (Aug 3 less three weeks).

Tom, I purchased a 2004 V6 Accord a week ago. I have experienced the same
thing going from first to second gear. Have you been able to get any
resolution? Honda says that my car already has the fix on it.

My car is in the shop now and I expect that they will say they can't
reproduce it. Let me know if you have had any success getting it
    addressed. Thanks

Found something on another forum. It appears to be the ABS pump turning on
as you start off. It only happens when I start out in the morning.
