    I wonder which Accura models are most similar to a Honda Accord LX and
    EX models in a sense of most part commonalities. I also wonder what
    price premium one must pay for the corresponding Accura model over the
    Honda model. Any of you guys researched this before?

    I have read some articles in car magazines on this subject. They are very
    similar and even have some of the same parts. In most cases, the Acura
    models are slightly better than the Accord models.

    Acura TL is the only one similar to any Honda car, and it is basically
    a fancy Accord. $10,000 extra, more or less, over what you can
    negotiate an EX V-6 for. Worth it? Depends on you. How badly do you
    want to impress your neighbors? How badly do you want a car made in
    Japan? How small a trunk can you tolerate? What is your tolerance for
    expensive replacement tires? As the man said, if you have to ask, you
    probably can't afford it. I could, but still chose the 2004 EX V-6.
    Fine car.

    There was a time when the Integra was based on an older Civic
    platform. The Acura versions always had a stiffer suspension and
    the engine choices were always more powerful (at least until the
    '98 Civic Si). There was no Acura equivalent for the del Sol.

    Of course some of the basic assembly parts are similar. But for
    the most part, the offerings with the Acura nameplate were very
    different than those with Honda. I don't think there's ever been
    an identical engine in an Acura and Honda, save the Acura EL sold
    in Canada, which was essentially an upscale, rebadged Civic. For
    the most part the Acura "equivalent" always offered more power
    and/or better handling for the premium price.

    Honda didn't play the game that Toyota did with Lexus, or that
    Nissan did with Infiniti. The Lexus ES300 had the same V6 that
    went into a Camry. The LX470 is pretty much a Land Cruiser (which
    is plenty luxurious). Nissan is rebadging some of their cars like
    GM would do with Cadillac.

    I used to buy some basic parts for my '95 Integra GS-R at a Honda
    dealer. This would be things like bolts, seals, washers, filters,
    etc. However - the Acura nameplate at least almost always means
    something different.

    Hello,
    You made some great points. I just wanted to add that many of the same
    engines used in Acura cars are eventually used in Honda cars. For example,
    I own a 1999 Accord (4 cyld.). I was under the false impression that the
    type of engine in car was first used in the 1998 Accord (4 cyld.). I later
    found out the identical type engine in my 1999 Accord was first used in
    the 1996 Acura CL.

    I though the TSX was the Euro Accord Sedan and the RSX was the Coupe?

    which they should have offered in the USA. especially on the hatchback
    model. a luxury hatch with an acura engine? sweet!
    which is one reason they arent exactly setting sales records. some, like
    the lexus IS300 are otherwise only sold in japan, and are really nice cars.

    is there a lexus equivalent to the toyota avalon? just curious. its
    always been kind of an "odd duck", being the fanciest toyota in a
    near-lexus price range.

    The EL is only available as a 4-door sedan with the 127-hp VTEC engine.

    Sounds like the Si, pretty nice interior with the k20a3, only Civic with a k
    series engine which was essentially the Acura RSX powerplant. People just
    don't get this car, it's really pretty cool on so many levels.

    Not quite. Take a look at the Japanese lineup:

    http://www.honda.co.jp/auto-lineup/

    You can put your mouse over the pictures to get the English link
    names. I think the current mapping goes somewhat like this:

    Japan -> US
    -----------------------------
    Honda Integra -> Acura RSX
    Honda Accord -> Acura TSX
    Honda Inspire -> Honda Accord
    Honda Legend -> Acura RL
    Honda MDX -> Acura MDX
    Honda NSX -> Acura NSX

    I think the Acura TL has no direct Honda equivalent. Also, it's not
    an exact mapping since there are variations in engines and interiors.

    OK, so it looks like I was right about the TSX=Accord Sedan.

    Here in the USA we don't have a Honda Integra. Maybe I was right (in
    regards to USA models) about the RSX being the same as our Accord Coupe.

    I don't think so. The RSX is a fair bit smaller than the Accord Coupe.
