What should the engine temperature of a 1990 and 1991 Honda Civic
be. Both my and a friends daughters Civics just feel to take too
long to warm up. I have placed a lab grade thermocouple on the
engine, held be a magnet to a bolt, and both get to between 150
and 165 degrees F in 40F weather. My gut tells me this is a little
    too cold.
What should I expect to pay for OEM Honda thermostats?

About $20. Don't even consider aftermarket. Not worth the hassle.

    1) How's the heater output? Windshield defogging?

    2) How long does the gauge take before the needle gets to full-warm (just
    below half-way)?

With a good thermostat it should take no more than 5 minutes in cold
    weather to get to full-warm.

those are normal temps during the cold temps, if those were water temps.

Accord spec says 169-176`F, while dipped in H2O.
About $15. You might have a choice of two kinds. Pick the higher temp if you
    live in 40`F.
