As some of you may have heard, Denver has been hit by two blizzards
in a week. Denver and Lakewood never got around to plowing the local
residential side-streets from the last blizzard before this one hit.
As I drive my front-wheel-drive 2000 Civic DX past SUVs that are
fishtailing around or embedded in snow drifts, I indulge in a little
    schadenfreude.

(OK, so I cheat--I use four studded snow tires. Four wheel drive is
nothing compared to the glories of four wheel STOP.)

I have always said the same thing about those who opt for 4wd so they
    can drive in the snow.

i think the gloat is perfectly justified! i've lived in europe, and
people even go /skiing/ over there without 4wd's! who'da thunk it possible!

  5. It depends on how well maintained the road is. I've driven on regularly
plowed roads using nothing but 2WD with traction control. Less
maintained roads can be too uneven for 2WD even with snow tires.

If the road is that difficult to get moving on than it is unlikely that
    stopping will be an option.
