    Hi.

Right now I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee '97 but I am interested in
    purchasing a used Civic.
I hear they are very reliable and great on mileage... How long do they
    last? Almost forever?

I'm looking at a 2-door model for, hopefully, less then $10k... they
    seem to be nice cars...

I'm a bit concerned because it seems a lot of kids dress these economy
    cars up with cheap
stickers and seats and call them racing cars, and I don't want to
    project that image.

  2. Want a 2000 Accord EX 5 speed with 34K miles and 3 more years HondaCare
for about that? 35mpg on the highway with the A/C on, going through the
    mountains even....

I've gotta get rid of it; someone will win on this deal, but nobody has
    realized that just yet....

With proper maintenance, yes. Without proper maintenancem they will still
be a lot more reliable than that Cherokee. Expect around 30-35 mpg.

    That's a problem.

My '91 Integra is just at that age where they're getting cheap enough that
the ricers are buying them and tarting them up.

I don't like being lumped in with the ricers either, so that's why mine is
totally stock, right down to the last nut and bolt.

When I recently changed insurance companies, I had to get the car inspected
so they could make sure there were no modifications to the suspension or
    engine.

I was told that if any modifications had been found, they would have
refused to insure the car. The insurance company told me that the rice boys
cause too much claims trouble to be worth insuring them.

    depending on care and maintenance
    they can be.
dont buy from "honest jose's used cars"... a lot of those cars are riced
out, raced out, repoed junk. id buy from a private party, but stay away from
a kid-owned car. maybe from a woman thats had a dealer do all the work (and
has receipts to prove it) or a family that wants a minivan or SUV.

another option is an off-lease car from a honda dealer, but youll pay more.

I'd recommend a 2000 Model. Look for an original owner who's got
maintenance record (which can also validate mileage reading). With this
car, maintenance is more critical then driving style. If you find a kid
who owns it, but he's maintained it well, I'd take that car over a woman
who doesn't know where to find the dip-stick.

btw, If you're planning on getting an automatic tranny, I would look into
getting the 2001 model. Leave money aside to swap out the the front struts.
