Hi -- I have 2002 Honda Civic LX. It has around 23,000 Miles on it. Recetnly the tires started making noice. I took the car to the dealer and he said i need to replace all four tires. I just feel like replacing tires after 23,000 miles is too early. I just wanted to check whether 23,000 miles is normal life time for civic tires. Also do i need to replace all four tires? I took the car for regular maintainance every 5,000 Miles.I think at 20,000 miles they rotated the tires. Also if have to replace all/some of the tires, do you guys have any suggestions for tires? Thanks for your time Anil
I dumped the tires on my crv at 10K (I don't know why I waited so long). Honda puts the worst tires on their cars, and my crv was the worst tire ever. Just get over it and put a good set of tires -do not buy them from the dealer because they will put the same junk you had in the first place. This is the best thing you can do for your safety.
Have you checked the tread depth of the tires yourself? Have you been making sure that your tires have enough air pressure? Underinflation tends to increase wear and damage to the tires, and can be unsafe (poor handling and braking, greater risk of blowout).
Tires should last much longer than 23,000 miles. Closer to 40,000 at minimum. Some folks prefer changing to premium tires as soon as possible. If your tires are truly worn out, then take it to a quality tire shop for replacement...not the dealer, as you will be overcharged for the tire they will provide. If you belong to Costco or Sam's Club, that'd be my first recommendation. Good luck.
what kinda noise? how much tread is left? i replaced mine after 45k miles/6 years just because they were hard as rocks, had plugs and fixaflat in em. still had plenty of tread, but i think the fixaflat was messing up the balancing. BF goodrich touring, 60 series.
It's early of course but it may be that you have not paid enough attention to their wear pattern and they are unevenly worn. It's the driver's responsibility to check tires fairly regularly for abnormal wear, shock damage, kurb damage etc. etc. Why are you asking us? You can tell if you need to replace all four by looking at the tires, checking the tread depth and for even wear. Then if two are still good for say another 10K miles, you have to figure if you want to replace the other two worn ones with the same tire. If not replace all four. That depends a lot on what you want in the way of performance and driving conditions. For a good all-season all-round tire, I use Dunlop SP Sport A2. Pirelli P6000SV is another candidate.
