    Hello,

I am having a terrible time with the lighter in my 2001 Honda CRV. It has
been coming out ever since I first bought the car in 2001. It was covered
under warranty and they kept fixing it, but now they won't fix it unless I
pay them. I only use it to charge my cell phone so I am perplexed as to what
is going on. They tell me at Honda Canada that there is nothing they can do.
In fact, they are so rude there, that they kept me on hold while they
telephoned my dealership in Ottawa to find out what was going on. I am sorry
I ever bought this car as I did not know that I would have the problems I am
having with it. They also told me I needed new rotors after only about
65,000 km which I found hard to believe. However, I had to pay for them as I
need my vehicle to be in good running condition.

Does anyone know what I can do about this problem?

    Thank you,

    Jane

You aren't the first to have this problem. Walk into Canadian Tire and
look at the 'generic lighter socket replacements'. You'll see how they
are locked into the dash by a sleeve that is threaded at one end. Yours
is like that. Dealer probably should have put LockTite or contact cement
on those metal to metal threads when they snugged it up the last time.
    What do they care?

Diagrams of your dash can be found here.

This Honda stereo installation document will help you pull the dash
    apart.

When you fix it, put some stuff on it to lock it in place (unless you're
    a smoker, maybe)
