DX < SE (VP) < LX < EX

I dunno if they stand for anything anymore but it's the "trim level" and the
amount of stuff installed standard. DX is base, EX is loaded and what's
    included varies by model.

  3. I don't believe those letters stand for anything---there is at least one
exception to this rule--SE stands for Special Edition.

Many Honda owners use such terms as EX to mean Excellent which means it is
best or most excellent of the various other models. It also costs more
than the other models and has more features than the other models.

The LX and DX cost less but don't have very many features such as moon roof.

I advise you to stop by the local Honda shop and pick up some of those
free booklets. They have a separate booklet for every type of vehicle they
make. It explains the features that the EX, DX and LX have.

The SE aka Special Edition is a little misleading. You might think that is
the "top of the line" trim level based on it's name but it's not. It's is
between the LX and EX trim.

DX, LX, SE, EX is in the order of least loaded to most loaded

Are they abbreviations for something? Perhaps.

SE is the top of the line in a CR-V, with the leather interior, up grade
sound system, some more paint on the exterior,(bumpers), hard cover spare
cover, tinted windows, bla bla bla.

I am curious as to the meaning of the abbreviations, as I have to look at
the new vehicle sales brochure when I question what model mine is, as I own
    2 CR-V's, a SE and a whatever, both are 2001's.

The SE stands for "Special Edition". LX-luxury/EX-executive. I have no
clue what DX stands for. But their order in feature is for sure DX, LX,
LX-V6, SE, EX, EX-V6(starting with least to most features). I found this
out when I was in the market for an Accord. SE has some selected
features from EX, but EX-V6 has all the features Honda has to offer in
that class of car. Most of the times LX-V6 has leather too. Its just
strange to see that Honda doesn't really used the labelling on car
    consistently from year to year.

Good to know. It seems that they're not consistent with their trim
labeling, because that's not the case with their Accords and it seems that
they went away with the SE in the CRV's starting in model year 02.

All these lables started in the late 70's, when you got the base : (Luxe) GL
(grand Luxe) DL (De Luxe) GT (grand tourer) GLE (grand Luxe supreme0n GLe
(Grande Luxe Extra) and so on.

I'm assuming that for honda, DX is DeluXe.

There was an article in that great bastion of 70's week-by-week motoring
publication, "On the Road" which explained all of these terms. Course, this
is from an area when a radio was only on the GL and you were very lucky to
get a radio cassette in you top of the range spec. I can even remember an
article on how to install a basic cruise control kit to any car. Are these
    kits even made any more?

Far as I know they don't stand for anything (except SE)

In Canada, the trims are different classed as well....these ones you ask
about are used on civics mostly only, not CRVs, Accords, etc.

    Hatchbacks/coupes (2dr):
lowest: CX, DX, (VX), SE, Si, SiR :highest

    Sedans (4dr):
    lowest: LX, EX, EX-V :highest
