honda mtf or regular 10W30?

  1. I need to do a transmission oil change (manual) on a 98 civic, the manual
states that 10W30 oil can be used if Honda MTF is not available.... Other
than the fact that the Honda MTF is 3 times more expensive, is it strongly
recommended to use it? If I replace the oil often (as in, every year), will
regular (of course API approved SAE 10W30) oil do fine?>

I've used motor oil in my 91 Civic for years... the first one I had over
180,000 miles on it before I wrecked it and this current on I have 133,000
miles on it. I've been using motor oil in it since it was about 60K.

I generally follow the factory's manual recommendation. If they give you
options... pick one that's right for you.
