A while ago I had a problem with the OPDS sensor in the passenger
seat, Honda fixed it under warranty.

Sense then it has come on twice. The second time, no idea what
happened. Took the car in for service (60k mile style, they reset it
for free... how nice!). Now it is on again and I have researched on
    how to disable it myself.

A few questions, for anyone technical that might be able to answer.

How many actual switches are in the ass and back sensors in the OPDS?
How many sensors feed the SRS system?

The first time it came on a friend was just sitting down in the seat
when I cut the car on, so I'm assuming the switches were made out of
order so the system assumed that one of the switches is faulty.

Has Honda come up with new firmware that might recheck / re-evaluate
the sensors and clear the error in the event that someone has sat
    something on the passenger seat?

I was thinking it might be possible to take one of these $3 chips
called PIC microcontroller and program it so that it can automatically
reset the SRS error when the car is started. Seems like a nasty fix
for a problem that shouldn't exist. I guess it is one of those things
where the Honda engineers came up with something that looked good on
paper, but in the real world problems turned up.

Unlike most people I've actually taken apart the passenger seat to
install a LCD video display in the headrest. I've seen the sensors,
there is quite a bit there.

Is the pinout for them availible? So that one can test their
    operation?

It might be worthwhile to put together a little FAQ on how to
troubleshoot / fix / reset these errors.

I'm assuming on ODBII cars there is no easy way to read out the exact
code without constructing a computer interface and buying software? Do
the codes get accurate enough to indentify which sensor threw the
    error?

It is funny, it all smells of a pinball machine ... except pinball
machines have better diagnostics. It is a shame they don't put a
240x120 pixel or larger LCD in the dash that can actually spit out
human readable, technical errors. $100 microwaves are shipping with
them, you would think $25,000 cars could (Yea, I know some cars like
    VW puts them in).

take it in and have the code read. it could be a crash sensor,
buckle switch inflator open or short, opds unit, opds sensor, srs
unit. reseting every time will never make it right.
as for scanning yourself, you may flash a code but reading
    through the DLC is proprietary.
