Honda vs. the fast and the furious...

  1. Top posting, responding to nothing specific.

electricked, I agree with everything you said, more or less. Yes, it's the
"clowned box" (LOL!) cars that make me cringe, as well as the noise
polluters (exhaust or stereo). Too bad there aren't more Honda sleepers.

I guess I'm done ranting (I do this in here every few months or so). Thanks
    for the detailed responses.

LOL - "Q ship" is term originally used in WW I (and again in WW II) to
describe heavily armed ships which were disguised as helpless merchant
ships. The bad guys show up expecting easy pickings and get a big "Oh,
    shit!". :)

Well there ya go. Thanks for the history. I guess the phrase got revived in
the '80s for use on that type of car.

That's an LS? No spoiler, plastic wheel covers? I'll bet it's an RS, not an
LS. That's the way they were sold up here, anyway.

Definitely! It's sometimes interesting to see where these terms
    originated & when.

The group was quite lively when he was around (even though he was a border line
    troll).
Haven't heard from him in several month. I guess he's found somewhere else to
    preach about Torque.

True, those sleeper are a blast. It's even more fun when the other person
doesn't realize that they've been wasted by a sleeper *grin*.

Toyota plans on putting in the 1.8L 180hp engine into their Corolla. If you
loose the spoiler and the side skirts which is standard for that model, it
    would make a perfect sleeper.

Cool, now I know where the term came from. It was use in 'Honor Harrington'
science fiction series by David Weber.
    It's an entertaining read.

  9. I've owned all three - the '92/'93 was the best, apart from a couple of
things like the horrible headlamps (9004XV light output) and seats which
are not too comfortable on a long drive; 2nd gen had the real double
wishbone suspension. Whatever the failings of the 3rd gen, it's still a
far better car than the 1st gen. 1st gen had that horrible strut front
suspension with a longitudinal torsion bar<yugh> in front, panhard rod
solid axle in rear and the engine was just too gutless - it was also worse
    at rusting of bodywork.

Interesting that you should bring that up. Rust is a sort of hobby of mine
on account of where I live (southern Ontario, Canada).

    ------

The '90-'93 Integra suffers from relatively little rust, with the '90s
starting only in the last two years to look ratty.

The Civic from '88 to '92 appears to have *much* worse rust than the
Integra, and I wonder if the steel came from a different supplier. The rear
edge of the rocker panels is often perforated, and I've seen outer rocker
    panels gone completely.

The 3rd gen Integra has much less rust than the '93-'97 Civic.

'93-'97 Civic has got to be the very worst for rust since the '80s Civics.
Every single one has extensive rust in the rear wheel well lip area, with
bumpers frequently detached at its leading edges. Door bottoms are often
    bad as well.

  11. My '92 is finally showing a bit of bubbling rust around the trailing edge
of the driver side rear wheel well - I didn't ever remove the rubber strip
thingy. The passenger side shows nothing yet.
My '88 Integra had bubbling rust on that same trailing edge of rear wheel
well at 4 years and 48K miles!! The Civics of same years (mostly?) were
U.S. built and the Integra was Jap built so seems there's not much chance
of a "different supplier" being the factor here. I'd guess it might be
more to do with specs for steel panel dipping treatment before paint
application which was changed in Japan circa. '90 and then maybe later for
    the U.S.

Mark, check this one out: http://www.sounddomain.com/id/v6illusion

I definitely like what he did with the car. If I had the cash I'd do it
myself. The only thing that might be a bit overkill is the engine bay area
with matching colors and stuff. The rest though, I like.

That's not rice. That's looking damn good. The car doesn't "pretend" to go
faster than it is. It just looks sweet, IMO. No spoilers, no wings, no
nothing. Nice set of rims, nice choice of color, good HIDs for visibility,
    etc. I like it.

Those first-gen Integra's were tight little cars. I remember
test-driving one and being very impressed. Too bad I couldn't afford
    one at the time... 8(

In your opinion. A lot of people want more. Hell, seems that most
Supra Turbo owners want more, and they start-out with 320HP.
LOL. Like the "wings" have ANYTHING to do with aerodynamics...
