This site claims incredible mileage for the accord diesel:

Remember that is _imperial_ gallons, 20% greater than US gallons.
And also driven under conditions that aren't disclosed. Official
euro fuel economy specification is 5.4 L/100km or 43 miles per
_US_ gallon (52.3 mi/imperial gallon). Still excellent, but not
the astounding number in the PR.

The LX cannot be similarly optioned.

  4. I'm currently getting approximately 45 MPG (US) average per tankful in my 2004 HCH. I have found to
keep my MPG at the highest, I have to keep a pretty close eye on how often I run fuel injector
cleaner in my tank. Dirty injectors will cost me around 2-5 MPG per tank. The *worst* MPG I
observed was 41+ MPG (running the AC, plus passengers). It's easy to learn to change your driving
when you can watch your gas mileage on the dashboard. I use the cruise control most of the time (on
the freeway), and take my foot off the gas LONG before needing to stop (due to the excellent
    coasting ability).

If I lived in a relatively flat area, I'd get better gas mileage, but San Diego has quite a few
hills between the east county and the coast. I also run my tire pressure at the max the tire is
rated (44 PSI), not the soft, spongy ride the Honda dealer wants you to have.

So far, I've been very happy with my Honda hybrid.

    YMMV.

May I suggest reading a fantastic article in Car and Driver from last month or
the month before. It totally explains the advantages and disadvantages of
diesels and their unique hurdles here in the US.

52.3 mpg for the diesel Accord I cannot get in America thanks to
    ignorant environmental fascists.

0-60 in 9.1 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph.

I doubt Honda would build it if it was not clean.

Saloon 5-speed manual: 0-60 9.1 seconds; top speed 130mph; combined
52.3 miles / imperial gallon or only 43.6 miles / US gallon
    Or 40.6 MPG (US)
And those damn tiny US gallons.

I would say that 5.4l/100km is 42.777 US mpg.

I think Honest John's conversion is bad.
    5.8l/100km = 39.82 US mpg.

Diesels are certainly available in the US.
The fascists don't seem to be stopping the sale of the Volkswagen TDI.

Maybe mine was. I remember (231/either unit) would give the other, but
    according to http://www.tdiclub.com/misc/conversions.html
it seems to be 235 / one gives the other.
    (235 / 5.4 = 43.55) and (235 / 43.55 = 5.4)

    282 for the Imperial Gallons.

    (235 / 5.4 = 43.55) and (235 / 43.55 = 5.4)
    282 for Imperial Gallons.

231 is the number of cubic inches in a US gallon.

, but according to http://www.tdiclub.com/misc/conversions.html it
Or 235.2145833 to add some precision.
    Or 282.4809363

With the following conversion factors, the l/100 km to mpg conversion
    can be derived:

1 US gallon = 231 cubic inches (exact)
    1 inch = 2.54 cm (exact)
    1 mile = 1.609344 km (exact)
1 liter = 0.001 cubic meter (exact, the old definition of a liter being
the volume of 1 kg of pure water at a certain pressure and temperature
    was abandoned in 1964).
    1 imperial gallon = 4.54609 liters (exact)

My Dodge Dakota has a one Gallon engine.. roughly.
    Or 0.621 miles = 1 km
You left out 1 US gallon = 3.785 liters, which was the start of this
    problem.

    The conversion factor is
    62.1 (miles/100km) * 3.785 (liters/usgallon) = 235

Better granularity than that isn't needed, since the liters/100km and mpg
numbers are either integers or tenths of liters.
