2001 Prelude with the rebuilt engine. OK maybe one goose, a very small
one far away. Recently I've been hearing a squeak when I start moving,
or when I'm going slow or turning. Not a screechy squeak, more like a
goose honk, but not very loud. I only notice it when I'm starting out
or just going slow. Just about every time now. I don't hear it at
higher speeds (maybe because it's not that loud). I look down towards
the dash when I hear it. If I'm crazy so's my wife. I never mentioned
it to her, but she noticed it when she borrowed my car recently. It's
a low noise (intensity not pitch, middle C maybe). I could do it for
you, but you wouldn't hear it. I guess we could both be nutz. Wait
that means my daughter is nuts as well. I guess it could run in the
    family.....Cheers everybody

p.s. burning much less oil now at 24K miles.

Hi. I am sorry, but i can't comment on the Goose as I am not an
expert at Preludes or any other cars. All I know is that it seems
weird that the engine would be rebuilt in a 2001 prelude. I have
three hondas and have never had the engine rebuilt. My Lude is 1995
wiht 171,000 mile and the smoothest, funnest car I have ever owned.

    I have a 96 accord lx, a 91 accord with 125k and a 1995 Prelude wiht
    171,000 miles.

None of these engines has been rebuilt.

Would you mind telling us why the engine had to be rebuilt at such an
early aga? It doesn't make any sense. Did your daughter burn up the
    engine or something?

Also, my friend's Accura (Honda make) Legend is a 1991 car which he
drives everyday. It has 314,000 miles and it has never had a rebuild.
In fact the engine is strong as the day he got the car eight years
    ago.

sincerely. Signed: Curious about the Honda rebuild.

If you are crazy so am I b/c I am having the same problem w/my 99
    Accord LX!

The car only has 43K miles and was "recertified" by Honda at 28k miles
when I bought it, so I was shocked when the dealer told me that the
noise was due to worn front struts. Granted, I do have to travel over
a pretty rough route due to potholes and such so I didn't find it
totally implausible. The service mgr told me they all heard that
noise and it was the struts. However, the struts were replaced 2 days
ago at +$500 and the noise is back! The noise I hear sounds more like
a squeek or rubbing sound--maybe a spring on a trampoline when in use
or when a bicycle wheel is warped. But I hear it at the same times
you do mostly when turning or going slow even if foot not on
accelerator and it's definitely in the front end of the car. I've
also noticed I hear it when the weather is damp or cold.

Before I storm the dealer and ask why I'm $500 poorer but still have
the same problem I'm researching this on the internet. I hope I
didn't get taken just b/c I'm a female, but if I did, they will regret
it. My main concern is that whatever is making that noise is doing
major damage which is going to cost me even more. At this point I'm
ready to trade the damned thing in and go back to Toyota.

If you find out what the deal is, please let me know and I'll do the
    same!

Still too subtle for a dealer. It's a mild squeak w/o any harsh
edges. More like a short muted tone or note. I expect it to evaporate
when it warms up. It could be something trivial like a squeaking
dashboard fitting. It may be coming from the steering column. It has
to get worse, or I have to find where it's coming from before I take
it in. Solved a problem with my '91 Integra GS recently, by replacing
the thermostat. I will let you know what I find out as well. My car
has seen no rough driving at 24K miles. It would throw me if it were a
strut, unless they had to mess with them when they replaced the short
    block.
p.s. there are enough crazy people in the world that we could both be
among them and not upset the curve. Maybe I just attract other crazy
folks by giving them a place to gather.....
