I have been shopping for a new honda off and on the last several
months, but may start getting serious finally. I had my mind set on a
civic, but I absolutely hate the interior. I am not considering a 2005
or 2006 Accord EX. A service tech at the dealer said he would not buy
the V6 because they have lots of transmissions problems, or if I do to
only get a manual(I only want an automatic). So is this true?

The tranny issues were fixed as of the '03 model year.

However, if you wish, you may create your own tranny problems: simply fail
to change the fluid as specified, or use something other than Honda ATF-Z1.

  3. Honda had many years of transmission problem on V6 cars. Those years
finally ended in mid-04, but the service tech is just being rightfully
    gunshy.

A 4 cylinder Honda is a pure jewel, and has plenty of power.

No. Some earlier Accords (2000-2002, IIRC) did have some problems with
the v6 attached to the tranny from the 4. It has been addressed with a
    warranty extension.

Can't speak to the new models, but in looking for a used car for my
son, we drove plenty of '98 - '01 Accords with the 4 cylinder. The best
was a '98 EX with the VTEC/ULEV engine - very peppy but would still get
    decent gas mileage.

No doubt. The I4 on the Accords is a fine engine for most folks. Plenty
of get-up-and-go. The V6 has more power, but how much power do most folks
need? I've only gotten my Civic Si over a hundred a couple of times, and
    those were probably ill-advised.

If I were buying a car for my kid, there is no chance I would get them
    anything but the 4.

  7. I drove a 2003 V6 stick for a few days. The power was nice, but was also
absolute overkill for daily driving. Unless you've got 'suicide' merge
lanes in your city, or some other demand, the 4 will do fine. My old 92
Accord Wagon has the 'small' 2.2L, and IMO it has more than enough power
    for merging, passing, etc.

The EPA site says the 2007 V6 wll get ~15% lower mileage than the I4.
That will add up to several hundred $ per year in fuel savings

What are your test drive impressions?

About the same as yours. If I were "practical", I probably would have
bought an accord I4. Being that I am not, I bought the Civic Si, and love
    it... ;-)
