Ignition Barrel

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Brian Jackson, Jun 24, 2007.

  1. I have a 1998 Honda Accord UK Spec ............ The ignition barrel has
collapsed inside and thus the key will not turn to start the car. I can
quite easily locate from various car breakers a replacement barrel including
key(s) ......... My question is .......... will this work or does any
replacement barrel/key need to be recognised by the Engine Management
System? (As they key is, I, believe 'chipped') If this is the case, how can
    I overcome this please?

Thanks in anticipation for any constructive advice!

    --------------------------------

Are you sure the (brake pedal / clutch) electrical interlock just isn't
    working??

The immobilizer 'reader' is in the steering cowl, part of your car, NOT
    in the lock cylinder.

If the key is 'chipped', make sure to rekey the cylinder to your key,
thus saving LOTS of money to have dealer cut and program a bunch of
keys. Read the 'misc' and 'other' categories of this page to understand
more about UK (and other) immobilizer systems Honda has used.

www.slhondaparts.com has pictures, but they are all North American spec.
