Importing Car

Hi,
I'm might buy a 1991 Prelude thats in the U.S. and bring it back to Canada.

I heard about the need to get a "recall clearance" letter.
Is this hard to get?

Will the car need any modifications to meet Canadian specifications?

Overall, is it difficult to import a car to Canada?

It's a lot more difficult to bring a car into Canada as opposed to
bringing a Canadian car back into the US.

 

A buddy of mine recently brought into Canada a car from U.S..
There was no tax to pay in U.S. He had to mail some sort of letter. It took
about a week before he was able to drive it in. At the border, he had to pay
Federal taxes on book value. Luckily he has a temperary plate thats good for
the next 4-5 months so that he can wait before getting the car inspected to
have it plated....

Go to the Honda Canada website, or the US Honda website, and read what
you'll be giving up. (ALL WARRANTY & RECALLS)

They put it in writing because somebody is bound to ask.

A guy in Calgary was trying to sell an AMERICAN CRV . . he was selling
quite cheap but still nobody would touch it because the warranty was
totally non-existant. (it was low mileage too) Future recalls were not
hopeful either.

I wanted a CRV at that price, but I wouldn't touch an American one for
no nothing.
