In search of... crank pulley for a 1991 Civic

Discussion in 'Civic' started by Mauricio Tavares, Oct 3, 2005.

  1. A friend of mine has a 91 Civic (automatic, PS, AC, D15 motor) whose
crank pulley has a crack on it. Does anyone have one doing nothing and
    could use a new home?

    Thanks!

Online junkyards in the U.S. are using search engines increasingly, and they
are amazingly precise. You can google for {junkyard honda parts} or similar
    and come across some.

I chipped my also 91 Civic's crankshaft pulley a year ago and located a few
at various junkyards online. (I spent about two hours at the library to do a
thorough search, so give yourself some time.) The yards that said they had
the part in their inventory online, emailed back pretty promptly. I finally
found one at a good price at www.olstons.com . They were great; quick
shipment; reasonable charge for shipment (maybe even included in the price,
IIRC). $50 total. My local salvage yard was insisting on $100, which is
    similar to the new price.

Definitely check ebay, too. I have seen crankshaft pulleys on it.

Make sure you get a dead-on match to the 1991 Civic's pulley.

Lastly, I believe the pulley is also known as the "harmonic balancer." Try
    this phrase on ebay, too.
