    Hi All,

I have a puzzling question about my thermostat in my 95
Integra (71,000 mi). This all goes back to my gas mileage that I am
getting...currenly it's about 22 mpg. When I am at a stop my temp
gauge goes up to a little past the 1/3 mark. When I take off, the
gauge goes down just above the C mark.
When I posted this originally and even now it seems that it
could be a faulty thermostat. The only thing is when I replaced the
thermostat about a year ago, I didn't notice any difference in the way
the car warmed up...I still got the same results it does currently. On
top of all this it seems like I get better gas mileage when the
weather is cold than on warm days when I have the A/C on....Could I
have gotten a brand new bad t-stat from the dealer? Could it be
something else that I've missed? I've also replaced the sensor that
goes from the engine to the gauge on the dash....Any help would be
    appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Nick

Could be the thermostat. In the past, i've replaced thermostat and the
new replacement was just as bad as the original. Since it's one of the
least expensive item that regulates cooling, it might be worthwhile to
double check that item. Otherwise, new radiator and water pump can be
expensive. Sine your cooling system is on the blitz, it might be a good
idea to check your coolant to make sure it can withstand the extreme
cold. However, I would never flush the old coolant unless the water pump
gets replaced in process. In two occation in the past, I'm flushed the
coolant and ended up with leaky water pumps.

The good thing about the timing belt replacement is that it's a great
opportunity to replace the water pump and flush the coolant. If you
haven't done the timing belt, this might be a good time to do some
    preventative maintenance.

Thanks for the tip. I actually aquired the car from my cousin last
year with 46,000 miles on it. I had the water pump/timing belt changed
at 48,000. I may end up replacing the t-stat again on a warm day.
