On 89 automatic civic, Sometimes I tried to change the gear,
I felt hot on the shifting gear bar. Seems like the transmission
is hot. Is hot transmission normal or my trans is gone bad?

I assume the "shifting gear bar" is the shift lever. The shift cable is
not going to transfer any appreciable heat from the transmission to the
shift lever. However, the hot exhaust runs under the floor pan just
about where the shift lever is located. That could heat the lever. Is
your floor warm also around that area? Also, it is perfectly normal for
the transmission to get hot after driving for a while. Put your hand on
the transmission housing, and you will feel pain.

Yes the shifting gear bar with metal part is hot. Not reeally hot
but it's hot. I did not check the floor pan where shift lever is
located but I touched the front panel and it is hot too.
