    Hello all,
My 4-cylinder accord (37,000 miles) has a problem when
accelerating from idle, the engine is a bit sluggish and tends to
stumble forward. Also, when accelerating there is a bit of
surge. I had the throttle plate cleaned several months back.

I am using chevron gas (with techron), but was wondering if
there might be a benefit to running a can of techron before
    filling the next tank.

Also, is techron bad for the engine?

    let me know....

It's very good stuff. Make sure you get the one that cleans the entire
engine, not just the injector cleaner. The bottle is just a more
concentrated dose than Chevron gas has. Good choice of gas, by the
way, but deposits can still form after that many miles (had the same
problem on my Infiniti I30t about that often).

  3. Why did you have the throttle body cleaned? Are you sure it was dirty
or was the dealer just selling you something? It would be very
unusual for the TB to be dirty on such a new car running good gas.
Obviously, the cleaning didn't solve the problem.

Techron has a good reputation. Who knows if it really does anything,
but a lot of people (including me) use it and no one has complained of
it causing a problem. I use it once or twice just before an oil
    change if I remember.

Why was the throttle body cleaned?

No. It's in all Chevron gas.

You don't have a "V4". You have an inline 4.

The throttle was cleaned since earlier I had a sticky
accelerator pedal. That problem has been solved, I believe.

The current problem I have is the uneven acceleration
from idle and a bit of surge when increasing speeds.

Does the above sound like dirty engine or could it be something else?
    (spark plugs, egr, etc.)

    thanks for any advice!

Have you asked your dealer for any TSBs regarding your symptoms? Accords
around that age had a number of TSBs issued for throttle body and EGR
    problems.

These don't apply to your car, but give you a general idea of what's
    involved:

  8. I believe the V6 models had the EGR issues.

As far as I know, yes. That's why I then stated this:
"These don't apply to your car, but give you a general idea of what's
    involved..."

Why would it not apply to a v4 or inline 4 engine?

I am seeing symptoms of rough idle, uneven
acceleration. Does it sound like an EGR problem?

    Thanks!

First off, you don't have a "V4" unless you somehow got an old British
Ford Transit or Russian Zaporozhets engine installed in your Accord. You
    have an INLINE four.

Secondly, the intake setup for fours and V6's is very different. Things are
in different places and in close or distant proximity to each other, which
    affects their affinity for problems.

    Could be. Might not.

The point of asking your dealer for TSBs having to do with your VIN and
your specific symptoms is that there MIGHT be an outstanding issue your car
has that Honda already knows about. If so, you can get it fixed without
spending weeks dithering around in here.

Thirdly: Driveability problems like this can be very difficult to try to
solve over Usenet. A qualified mechanic needs to give the car a good
look-see in order to best troubleshoot it. Yes it costs.

If you've got the four and you had a sticky throttle plate and there are no
TSBs on that issue, then poor maintenance is suspected. If maintenance has
been improper or inadequate, all bets are off.

Bite the bullet and bring it to a garage. I suspect you have some other
things wrong that cannot show up in a Usenet post.
