Life expectancy of an Accord

Just out of curiousity, does anyone have a good idea or any personal
experience regarding what the life expectancy of a typical Accord engine
from 94-97 would be assuming proper maintenance and servicing were
performed? Just wondering. Thanks.

Traded my 94 Accord EXR two weeks ago with 180000km, and it still had
plenty of power (on my way to the dealership I did 220km/h in it on a
flat road). It was not burning any oil, not leaking fluids, and it
passed an emissions test here in Ontario by a HUGE margin.

Other than a few minor problems (small electrical problems, a thermostat
and the CV arms and ball joints, all fairly cheap to repair) the car was
still drving like new.

The only weak point was the auto transmission, which was a bit bumpy
when changing gears, but it had done that since I bought it with 75000km
on board. I guess my... umm... spirited driving did not help there, but
it was still shifting well, without slipping.

But it really depends on how it was maintained. I always changed the oil
every 5-6000km with Castrol Synthetic, and did all the regular
maintenance on the car at the proper mileage (including other fluid
changes). Overall, if the car wasn't abused, it should last about
250-300000km.

did not take any responsibility for what happened (bastards!). My advice be
aware of your surroundings when you are at hotel or motel. Like I said there
have been other Accords but I liked the lxi hatch the most. My current
vehicle is a 2003 GMC Sierra Z71 that I am making payments on. I need the
truck for work and driving on the beach at the Jersey shore. I know I will
get another Accord when the truck is paid off. Hopefully Honda will bring
back the hatchback!

Honda quality definitely makes it easy for sure. The only "service" has been

Kentucky for various weekend travel and swim meets. I have a 95 Accord that
is approaching the 100,000 mile mark too.

I bought the car for $750 in November '03 with 262,000 miles on it. At that
time, NO REPAIRS had been done except for one of the drive axles had been
replaced. The car has had only regular maintenance.

Aside from continuing the regular maintenance, I have only had to replace
the spark plug wires, water pump, radiator and a small cooling system hose.
After some fine-tuning, the car now runs the way it did when it left the
factory 14 years ago.

The cylinder head has never been off the engine. It purrs like a kitten when
idling, with PERFECT compression. The engine runs and the car drives like
NEW! The gas mileage averages 30 MPGs.

The engine uses about 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. I think it's caused
by a leaking oil seal NOT worn piston rings! These cars are EXTREMELY HIGH
QUALITY. Only high quality cars could be so reliable and durable.

Acceleration in great around town but gets a bit weak on long grades up a
highway. I want an Acura of some sort next or an Accord V6.

In all honesty, that was the speedometer reading, so it's a bit off. But
considering that I GPS-ed it at 80km/h and at 140km/h and the
speedometer was off by less than 5km both times, 220km/h was pretty
close to the actual speed.

Keep in mind that the EXR has 145hp and 152lb of torque, so it's a bit
more powerfull than the EX or LX of the same generation (130hp, not sure
about the torque).

About 200,000 or more--esp. if you keep it in a garage when it is
not in use.

I see Accords that are at least 15 or more years old on the road and in
parking lots on a regular basis.

There are SO MANY Accords out there on the highways and in parking lots that
it is simply unbelievable!!! Accord sales numbers HAVE to be one of the
biggest success stories in the entire history of the automotive industry. It
really is mind boggling to me how many Accords I see per day on the roads
and in parking lots. That tells me that Honda has been doing SOMETHING right
for several years when it comes to the Accord.
