Light Problems DRL

Hi guys....I would really appreciate your help...

I have a 1996 Honda Accord EX...

Yesterday, I found out that the high beam light is not functioning
anymore...

First, allow me to ask what could be the problem (I don't think it's
bad bulbs..because what are the chances that the 2 bulbs go out at the
same time)...

I will try to explain the problem...when I switch on the high
beam...the dash light for high beams goes on..that means my dash thinks
that the high beam lights are on...whereas it is not...

so is it a problem related to a fuse? or to something else?

one more question...that I'm not sure about it...when I turn on the
car...should the DRL goes on automatically? or I should switch it
on?...because what happens is that the dash light for DRL goes on
(amber light)..and it only turns off when I switch the lights on
(fully)...I mean when I turn the knob to the end..not one click..two
clicks..so is that normal or you think it's a problem related to the
"module" or "fuse"...

I would appreciate your help...

Most important question . . What country are you in? The Canadian
Owner's Manual says the DRL dash lamp should 'glow' when the DRL is
working, and extinguish when you turn your lights on. What happens if
you pull the lever (flash to pass)? Do the high beams come on then? Have
you checked the under-hood fuse boxes? There's diagrams on the inside of
the fuse box lids to tell you what fuse does what.

If you dont' have an owner's manual, your dealer will get you one in a
few days.

The amber light normally lights up when you start the car with the parking
brake already set. The lights themselves will not come on until you release
the parking brake (or you turn on the headlights), at which time the amber
light on the dash will go out. If the parking brake is not set, the DRLs
come on automatically when you start the car.

If the parking brake is not set and the amber light still comes on, perhaps
there is a problem with the DRL relay.

If the high beam bulbs do not light up under either setting (DRL or actual
high beam), the bulbs themselves could be bad. If they work as DRLs only,
then the high beam fuse could be bad.

I do not know, however, if the high beam fuse affects both settings or just
the actual high beam mode.

 

well guys...

I guess the problem might be to the DRL Relay...by the way I have the
canadian version of the Accord...

so any solution can you suggest..anyway to fix it for example..a new
DRL Relay would cost $145.00....

I heard that you can take it out and re-solder the connections
again...is it possible?

and do you think the DRL Relay would affect the high beam lights as
well?

If you pull the DRL relay, your High beams will be dead, since all
current runs thru that module. Just resolder it, exactly like a 'honda
main relay' (see google) Use some fresh non-acid flux to insure good
connections. If you have problems with just ONE hi beam turning off,
it's usually the LO Cut relay, which is above your left foot, on the
(inside of the ) firewall.

for some weird reason..the high beam lights worked today...just like
that..out of the blue...so the problem now is just the DRL not
working...besides I had both high beam lights not working not only
one...

so do you think that the problem remains with the DRL...and just a
quick question...where is it exactly located? and how easy it is to
resolder it...

Rest your head on the brake pedal and look straight up under the dash.
There are a couple of relays up there, and you just count the number of
wires going into each. The DRL module has the highest count . .like ten
or eleven., as I recall. Don't bother trying to remove the whole relay.
Just pull the guts our downward by pulling on the connector. Then unplug
the connector and take the circuit board inside to work on it.
