MORE fuel economy

    I once recorded 46MPG (US MPG) on my '98 Civic from
    Winnipeg to Calgary. This was right after changing the
    plugs (with a wide gap, the spec is .039 to .043 inches so
    use .043) and I also had new wires and a K&N filtercharger.

    However, the weather was perfect with next to no wind, I
    didn't have to use A/C, and I was only cruising at about
    72MPH through the flattest part of North America.

    And I've never been able to repeat it..... close, but
    no cigar.

    I have no problem believing that, one (late) spring night back in 2000 I
    shuttled people from suburban Phila to a town on the south Jersey shore, up
    the Parkway to north Jersey, and then retraced my route. I got 44.4 mpg on
    that tank in my old '98 Civic LX 5 spd. That was the highest I ever measured.

    think about that for a moment, take some time to ponder

    so basically, not only will you have to bear thru horrible noise, god knows
    what kind of little failures related to the camshaft.....you'll also be
    getting WORSE fuel mileage

    dont you know the law of conservation of energy? try applying it here....
    otherwise one might reason that disabling 3 cylinders will give you EVEN
    BETTER fuel mileage.

    with 3 cylinders, you'll have the acceleration of a bicycle

    thats some funny shit I tell you

    oh and one more thing... come on, admit that this post was just done cuz
    you were bored and wanted to show off even tho the knowledge aint there....
    you know it, I know it, they know it... just admit it

    you're willing to dish out 2k for a 10% change in MPG (if any)????

    I should be studying for a midterm, but you're truly being entertaining.
    Here's something that might interest you tho: a friend of mine is selling a
    95 tercel with a dead cylinder - the MPG on that thing must be AMAZING,
    think of the savings dude... the SAVINGS!!!!! just blow up the tires to
    50PSI and you'll be barely using fuel at all;

    I had a 1991 Tercel that had a dead hole, too. Must be problematic
    with that engine. I think it held 8 psi of pressure at 124,000 miles.
    The other cylinders held factory spec, but it had been run out of oil
    a couple times. It still hit 80mph fairly easily on a 4 speed manual,
    and it got about 35mpg. I couldn't stand that car, it had no sound
    barriers, and the door were about an inch thick. It was a tin can on
    wheels. Oh well...

    The best I ever got on my 94 Civic was at about 110,000 miles while
    driving from Norfolk to Oklahoma City on I-40 in Tennessee. I got 48.7
    mpg, and when I was done I filled it with 10.5 gallons for 512 miles.
    That was great....Now I'm down to 34-40mpg at 168,000miles. I just
    can't seem to get past 40, even after replacing the PCV valve.

    I don't think so. I once went from OKC to Dallas at 100+ mph for 90%
    of the trip and only filled up with a little over 5 gallons. I think
    it was about 37-38 mpg. I recall getting about the same mileage from
    Tallahasee to Tampa at about the same speed while following a gorgeous
    Supra. I agree with the principle, since the work is proportional to
    the speed cubed, but since our engines have MUCH greater efficiencies
    at high RPM's, it tends to balance out.
