motor oil weight question

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Matthew Lobur, Oct 27, 2003.

  1. Hello all,
Would just like to hear some of your thoughts on motor oil weight. Some
    info

2001 4cyl accord, I live just below New York City.

I was thinking of doing oil changes myself and would like to use 10w-30
Mobil 1. Does anyone think that would be too thick for my location?

    thanks,

    Matt

    0W - 20 Mobil-1 is what you should use.

10W-30 is ok for a hot summer
For winter (or all-season) you better of using 5W-30. Simply follow your
    Owner's Manual.

  5. Your car's owner's manual will give the manufacturer's recommendation
for the grade of oil to use in the car.

Yes, Tubby Timmy is correct. Use the oil specified for your car in
your owner's manula unless you have a REALLY GOOD REASON not to.

If your manual recommends 5w-20, you can use Mobil1 0w-20.

Mobil1 does not have a 5w-20 on the market.

Look up the spec sheet on M1 0w-20 and you will see that
it pretty much matches the specs for 5w-20 to the T.

I tried M1 5w-30 and noticed a considerable loss in mpg.

    I now use M1 0w-20. (on my 2002 civic)
