no heat

  1. You are not really giving us any information here. Who said your heater
core was bad? Is it leaking? Is your coolant level low. Can you smell
coolant? Did you take it to a shop? What does the temperature gauge read on
    the dash?

Before I plunk down $400 for a heater core, what elso could possibly
be wrong with a '91 Accord with no heat? Live in NE Ohio, REAL cold.

(Lisa) spake unto the masses in

When you move the heater lever in the cabin, does the lever on top of the
heater control valve near the firewall in the engine compartment move?
A seized control valve will result in little or no heat.

    How old is the thermostat?
An old thermostat will result in poor heat output.

  4. On my 87 accord I wasn't getting any heat, so I replaced the thermostat and
    the coolant. problem solved.

You could have no coolant, a bad thermostat, a broken temp knob (does it
take almost no force to turn the temp?), a misadjusted watervalve cable.

My bet is on the broken temp knob. $5

  6. Thermostat. That's the most likely culprit. It's stuck open.

  7. ===============

Open the radiator cap and check for coolant. It should be colored, not
clear, and should be full absolutely to the cap. Then make sure the
coolant is also half-full in the expansion tank. Check your Owner's
manual if you're not sure which is which.

Don't add water, especially not tap water. Heater cores don't stop
working unless they freeze solid because of no antifreeze (water) or
because they leak (coolant in carpet).

    Same with my 96 Civic.

Your Civic has no heat too?

What are you responding to? You have failed to quote any part of the
previous messages, so I do not know your context.

  10. It's very unlikely to be the heater core. If the thermostat is good and
the engine is really getting up to operating temp... and the water valve is
getting opened by its cable... finally, there's also a door in the heater
box, operated by the same temp control knob as used for the water valve,
which allows air to bypass the heater core on the cool setting. IOW check
that the things controlled by the heating temp control knob actually work.
