Odyssey A.C. Filter Changout?

Discussion in 'Odyssey' started by Phyl/Ron Johnson, Jan 30, 2004.

  1. I have a '00 Odyssey which has been zero trouble. Transmission has
been very good though we only have 60k miles on the van.
Wondering about frequency of changing the filter on the air
    conditioning system.

Has anyone done it? I'm told it's behind the glove compartment and
requires a lot of plastic removal before getting to the filter. Ideas?
Is it worth doing? I would appreciate an e.mail direct as soon as
possible in addition to any posting you might do for others.
    << thanks, Ron

  2. What does your owner's manual say? You know, that thing they gave you
    with your $30K van.

    Mr Johnson,

    Start here,

    http://www.odyclub.com/

or do an internet search for 'honda cabin filter' or odyssey cabin
    filter.

It's easy, but you need a couple of sockets in the 8-12 mm range, some
small combination wrenches in the same range, and you can pick up the
replacement filter ahead of time at Canadian Tire or maybe Napa. Phone
around. Having the filter ahead of time will make the job go quickly.
Blowing (or vacuuming) the inside out with an air hose might be good too
(inside heater). Have a flashlight and long tweezers handy too, for
yanking out the debris you'll find in there.

i live in the south.. its hot as hell down here when the a/c is used and
we always set the a/c to recirculate the air in the vehicle.. so i guess
the a/c filter behind the dash is never used.. we got a 01 civic and the
a/c filter is the last of our worries.... we dont need it.....
it only filters the outside air which is never used.....

  5. There is no comment in my well-read owners manual.

  6. Thanks for your suggestion. I am amazed that no info. on frequency of
change or even the location is mentioned in the manual.

  8. The frequency interval is in the manual, but it's considered a service
item so the replacement procedure isn't in the owner's manual.

Go to www.odyclub.com and do a search on the subject. There is plenty of
discussion. The procedure is not in the owners manual, it is in the service
manual. It requires a little dexterity but can be accomplished by anyone
    with a little mechanical ability....

Guess again. The filter filters all air fed to the A/C -heater core. You
will find out when it blocks up and the A/C core freezes up...

That's not true. The filter is located directly in front of (literally
laying against the face of) the AC core. It filters the recirculated air as
    well.

let it begin! the a/c filter filters all air! it lies right next to
the evaporator. on the oddy when you pull the glove box out, you have
to cut off the plastic piece that runs side to side, it's only there
for assembly line purposes. then 2 8mm bolts and 2 phillips screws
    and your there.
