Odyssey DVD alternatives?

Discussion in 'Odyssey' started by Doug Schwabauer, Jun 1, 2004.

  1. Anyone have good luck with getting a DVD installed in an Odyssey
not from the factory? We've looked at BestBuy but they've
pretty much told us it won't look very good. You'll see wires,
dvd player must be under the seat, etc. But you can get
a 10" screen for $800ish there and the Honda dealer wants $2100 for
    the 7" installed.

There's gotta be a good reasonably priced way to get one installed
    and looking/acting good.

    Any input appreciated.

  2. You need to go to a professional installation place, and not Best Buy.

How about a laptop computer with a car power adapter? Most laptops include
a DVD drive now, and even the smallest laptop screen is much bigger than
    10".

My 2 cents on this issue:

I say scap the idea. It is things like this that are causing
an increase in cases of which kids have ADD. There have been numerous
studies which directly correlate too much TV viewing with the
syndrome. These parents are using the same excuse as what most people
who buy SUV have, which is that they are buying it for the one time a
year that they will need it.
There are other ways of entertaining your kids on long trips
than getting one of these things. If you do want it for the one time a
year that you will need it, get a Dell laptop for $700 and use that as
    another poster said.

The laptop is not easily secured to the car, and becomes a projectile
in a crash. Not good. Also, since the OP drives a minivan, there is
the third row to think about... passengers back there wouldn't be able
to see a laptop being held in the second row.

  10. I would agree however that kids are watching too much damn tv.

Possibly. We use a portable DVD player for the semi-annual trip to
    grandma's (about 900 miles one way), and it's a lifesaver. Wouldn't
want it in the car all the time, though - I think we should be able to
drive to Target without having to watch TV! :)
