    is it just me?

i have my crx listed for sale and have had countless test drives, no
buyers. each time, some ricer kid complains that "there's something
wrong with the clutch" or "the engine's not strong".

now, i know a bit about cars, & i know a bit about hondas. the car
pulls hard & smooth from 3k until the rev limiter kicks in at 7k. the
clutch is perfect & the transmission is absolutely a1. but it has a
real tall 1st gear, so when some kid drops the clutch at only 1500 rpm,
it bogs down, & when up-shifting at only 2000 rpm, it won't pull very
hard. it may be different with other transmissions with shorter gears,
but no honda i've ever driven has been good at low end torque.

so what is it with this? i thought the ricers were supposed to be into
honda for performance & rpm's? how come none of them take it above 3k?
i've seen this countless times cruising around san francisco. my
stock 89 dx automatic can usually leave some tricked up, whale tailed,
lowered, "jdm"ed p.o.s. in the dust, simply because i have the shift
adjusted for red line thereby ensuring that it pulls healthily. with
the crx, i can go even better, and that's just a dx, not the si.

to encounter the same reaction so consistently tells me i must be
    missing something fundamental. any clues?

Have you tried comparing your 0-60 time to published sources or other
CRX's? Maybe it is actually slow.

But, I'm wondering if you have a nice exhaust system that is quieter
than the other cars your potential buyers are testing. Frequently, a
lot of noise makes people think a car is faster than it is. If they're
junior-grade ricers, they want a 5-inch exhaust, regardless of how slow
    the car is.

BEcause they don't know what they are talking about? I have driven honda
for coutnless years and know that unmodified, power come at over 3K my
accord actually hits hard around 5k. last speed test I had it up to
210Kmh. not bad. But then again accords aren't really ment for super
fast pickups, but rather a smooth ride. Now if it were a V6 that's
    adifferent story

The key to selling something is to make the potential buyer feel like you
are doing "THEM" a favor selling them your (in this case) car.
Otherwise, just tell them to piss-off and stop wasting your time.
