P/S belt squeal won't go away

OK, I had to remove the P/S pump to do some engine work. I put it back in,
put the belt back (running in the same direction), bled the system, but it
still squeals when I first start the car until it has warmed up.

I tried tightening the belt, but even if it is tighter than the manual says
it should be for a used belt it squeals.

I tried belt dressing. That helped some, but not totally. I tried to be
sure that I wiped any residual P/S fluid from the pully before I put on the
    belt.

Do I just need to replace the belt, is there a problem with the P/S system
(air?), or what other causes? With the belt off of the motor the pump turns
fine. I would like to avoid replacing the belt since it is only about 30k
    miles old.

    TIA

Others may disagree, but I found a short blast of Pledge furniture
    spray quietens them instantly!

I would stop pssing around and replace the belt. Slipping belt might not be
too healthy for the pulley either.

  4. In the process of doing your work did you adjust the belt that turns
the AC compressor. If so, it could be your compressor clutch that is
squealing. Very common problem particularly if you overtension the
    belt.
