Painting parts of my Civic

Discussion in 'Civic' started by Curtis Gilchrist, Aug 10, 2004.

  1. Hello. Last year I bought a 2001 Honda Civic LX, white. I love this car,
but there is one problem: the door handles and the side mirrors are black,
and I want them to match my car, which is white. Has anyone attempted to
paint these themselves? I am wondering if there is any good spraypaint I
can use, or what my options are, other than taking it in to a body shop.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

the door handles and mirrors are something i would do my self...just put
some masking tape around the mirror and the area around the mirror. also,
put some tape around the handle to avoid over spray and possibly the key
hole....i would use an auto body spray paint from the auto parts store or an
oil based paint if they have one. perhaps rustoleum.. also clean the black
surface with alcohol or maybe something stronger like paint prep. use news
paper when you mask.... finally the most important step i can give u is
this... dont try to cover the black with white paint in one application, you
will probably need to put5 thin coats on to get it perfect. let the paint
dry in between applications..you might also want to use a primer......put
many thing layers on and it will last... make sure its dry and warm outside
when u do it.. humidity will mess up the job.
