Ive recently purchased 2001 civic EX. It has remote control unit to
lock/unlock the doors which is quite good. My question is this: when i
press unlock button in the remote control unit, car unlocks the driver door
and flashes all 4 turn signals but does not make sound at all. During
locking it doesn't make any sound either. Hard to know if its locked or
unlocked sometimes. Shouldn't it sound when i press unlock button on remote
control unit with flashing signals? Mine doesn't make any noise at all. Is
this normal or is it supposed to make noise when the unlock button is
pressed? It didn't come with owners manual so i can't look it up in it.
    Any help is appreciated.

I've read in my manual (96 civic ex) that if you press and hold the
"option" button and press lock (i think.. book's out in the car) and that
should enable/disable the horn honking on lock/unlock ... if that process
doesn't work (assuming you have the option button), post a reply in here
and i'll look it up in my manual

unless you don't have an option button.. in that case, i don't know.

.... ok i just did a google groups search... someone posted a message in
2000 about their remote (no option button) .. said that if they held the
unlock and lock button down for 2 seconds, it switches between beep and
    no beep ..

hope i've helped in some small way.

Try pressing Lock button twice in a row. When you do that on 2003 Accords,
the horn chirps once confirming locking - definitely helps when you're
walking away from the car and want to make sure it locks when you are not
looking. Maybe the behavior is similar on your Civic. But as far as
unlocking/locking and having all 4 turn signals flash as you press those
buttons, that is the same on my 2003 accord, so I take it it's been a
standard Honda keyless entry system behavior for a few years.

I just bought a 2003 Civic Ex. Here's what happens with mine:

    - Press Unlock once and the driver's side door is unlocked (lights flash
    twice)
    - Press Unlock a second time and all other doors unlock (lights flash twice
    again)
    - Press Lock and all doors lock (lights flash once)
    - Press Lock a second time and the horn beeps once to verify the doors are
    locked.

If I press Unlock (once or twice) and no doors open within 30 seconds, the
    doors lock themselves back.
