Hello, I have a 1997 Honda accord and today I was unsuccessful in
replacing the actuator. I was unable to get the old one out.
Can somebody outline the steps required to take the actuator out and
    get it replaced?

    Thanks

You did not mention if it was front or rear door or how far you got
    before you got stuck.

I was faced with the same task on a '96 Accord about a year ago (rear
door, driver side). Removed door panel, unclipped all relevant
connecting rods, and was able to get the whole lock and actuator
assembly loose. I was not able to maneuver it out from the door,
however, as the hardware for the window was in the way.

I gave up and left the bad actuator in there. I cut the wires to it and
installed one of these: http://tinyurl.com/vafq in addition to the bad
factory actuator. The replacement actuator was connected to the rod
linking the manual lock button to the door lock. E-mail me at
(remove the obvious) if you want more
    detail.

    Thanks

The actuator is in the drivers side.(left)
I removed the three screws that hold the lock but the actuator was
still attached to some metal stick that I was not able to remove.

I will think about the possibility of using the aftermarket one that
    you suggested.

    Thanks

Actually, this is a pretty easy part to replace. Beats doing the whole latch
assy. It only takes about 10 minutes to do, it's just a little picky lining up
the lever with the slot on the actuator. Only the three small gold color
    screws hold it on.
