power loss on 95 civic EX and distributor part number

I have a 95 Honda Civic EX that has developed a problem.

The car frequently (not always) loses power in the 2000-3200 RPM range
and drives like a golf cart. At higher than 3200 RPM power comes
surging back. Its an AT but at times I have to manually force it down
to 2nd or 1st to keep the revs high. This happens only when the engine
    has warmed up.

I got a suggestion that the distributor may be the problem so I took a
look at it to find the part number. Strangely enough it reads TD-41U.
    Shouldn't a civic EX with a 1590 CC engine have a TD-42U?

I still need to take the car to a shop and get the mechanic's opinion
on the issue but I find the wrong part number a bit unsettling. Anyone
have any idea what is the difference between TD-41U and TD-42U?

Also if someone has faced a similar problem, please let me know.

    TIA
