Hi I am 6'8" tall and I drive a 95 Civic coupe (and a 2003 Civic Coupe) -- mainly because the interior is "open" and has decent leg-room. I wouldn't mind a little more leg room however... so I would like to know what other tall Civic drivers have done with theirs to maximize driver comfort... customization?
Perhaps off topic, but I remember hearing about the customized Jeep Cherokee of former (7'7") NBA center Manute Bol. He had the driver's seat moved all the way to where the back seat was. Once he had some sort of moving violation with his friend Spud Webb (then the shortest player in the NBA) in the front seat. The cop gave the ticket to Webb, saying that he couldn't give it to someone in the back seat.
im 6'4 and drive a 1999 civic 5 door vtec. Leg room is fine. but i have raised the steering wheel a high as it would go and put the seat right back - apart from that, there not much else you can do is there? except sit upright nd striaght i spose...

On other cars I have removed the drivers seat and remounted it on the tracks a bit further back. 2 inches makes a big difference. Often you can just drill new holes and reattach, others require minor welding. Take it to a trim shop if you don't feel like tackling this. Another good possibility is aftermarket seats. The rice rocket phenomena has brought a lot of aftermarket seats. You order the adjustable bases for your application. These almost always have much more latitude (longitude?) in mounting. You can get some classy seats with matching upholstery for reasonable money if you do so me shopping. Be sure you can still reach the steering wheel. Sometimes you get the seat all the way back so you can stretch your legs, but you have to sit more upfright to reach the wheel, then your head is on the headliner Rex in Fort Worth
Thaks for the tip Rex. As far as removing the seat track and remounting it/drilling holes -- that's behind my abilities -- but what type of biz would provide such a service? I would pay for it if I could find someone. Whenever I've raised this issue in the past -- Ive been told that voids the warranty and that they would make themselves liable, etc. Also- any suggestions where I can find the after-market seats you desrcribe? Thanks.
|Thaks for the tip Rex. | |As far as removing the seat track and remounting it/drilling holes -- that's |behind my abilities -- It's actually quite simple in most cases. You are only doing one seat. Bolted to the floor (4 bolts) is the seat mount or base (sometimes called the pedestal). The seat itself bolts to the top of the mount. The top and bottom of the mount slide with respect to each other, for the adjustability. The seat itself has a steel channel on either side. This channel bolts to the top of the mount, usually in 4 places. So you remove the seat assembly - 4 bolts, maybe an electrical plug. Then unbolt seat from mount. Determine if you can relocate those 4 bolts, either on the base, or on the seat channels (or both) to get the seat back some. Measure, drill, re-attach in new position. | but what type of biz would provide such a service? I An auto trim shop would be my first stop. 2nd would be a shop that modifies cars for handicapped drivers. Those people are ingenious on things like this. |would pay for it if I could find someone. Forget the dealer, they would have liability issues. Aftermarket only. |Also- any suggestions where I can find the after-market seats you desrcribe? Here's a Sparco http://www.racerwheel.com/spr-00941gr.html ....and the bases http://www.racerwheel.com/interior-seat-mounts-brackets-honda.html Recaro would have more streetable seats. they have done special interiors for VW, Ford, and others over the years. http://www.recaro-nao.com/index_frames.html I'd search ebay for "Honda Seats" and see what brands show up. |Thanks. | ||> |I am 6'8" tall and I drive a 95 Civic coupe (and a 2003 Civic Coupe) -- |> |mainly because the interior is "open" and has decent leg-room. |> | |> |I wouldn't mind a little more leg room however... so I would like to know |> |what other tall Civic drivers have done with theirs to maximize driver |> |comfort... customization? |> |> On other cars I have removed the drivers seat and remounted it on the |tracks a |> bit further back. 2 inches makes a big difference. Years ago when I was a Porsche enthusiast, Recaro was the source for sport seats even as an order from the factory.
