ran out of gas

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Michael.S.Case, Feb 26, 2007.

  1. I recently ran very low on gas. I got in my car and it had trouble
    starting. I got it going and into the gas station. Now it wont start
    even with gas. It ignites but immediatly shuts down. Is there a
    problem now with a sensor or what? It feels like its either out of
    gas or flooded. Any advice?

    Starts but then dies once you release the key? Main Relay.

    ==================================

    Sit quietly in the car and turn the key to position II. Should hear MAIN
    RELAY engage the fuel pump for three seconds or so. Switch it off and do
    it again about ten times. You may just have air trapped in the fuel
    lines. My Dog Caravan was that way if I ran it dry.

    If it's flooded, you'd be able to start it the way the owner's manual
    tells you to start a flooded Honda. your symptoms are backwards.

    Mike, a clogged fuel filter will manifest itself at highway speed while
    climbing a hill into a headwind. It will usually wait until you pull out
    to pass a slow semi-trailer unit.

    It never happens when fuel flow through the filter is LOW, like starting.
