In the past I have taken the inside mirror out of the vehicle. Now I
use it to mount the E-Pass on it and because it has a thermometer in it.

I bet you anything you want that a fairly simple test would show that
you have no idea by and large what's happening behind and beside you.
I'll also bet you anything you want that you would never agree to such
    a test.

ALL mirrors, to include the rear view mirror (to see what's going on
behind you--through the rear window) and the side mirrors, if properly
    set.

There is no way that side mirrors can show everything that's going on
behind you. And if they're showing ANYTHING that's going on behind
you, they're not at all able to show ANYTHING that's going on beside
    you in your blind spot.

But you know that, because you're just trolling.
    [/QUOTE]

outside mirrors have a limited view compared to the inside rearview mirror.
Neglecting to use that wider view is unwise, and IMO,criminal.

The right side is even one of those convex mirrors that shrink the image
and distort the apparent distance.Anything farther than a few car lengths
makes other vehicles virtually invisible.Outside mirrors are strictly for
    nearby vehicles.

You're wrong on both counts, but whatever makes you happy. :^)
My rear windows are tinted deep black, so the inside mirror is a moot
point. The side mirrors are adjusted properly to allow full view of
what's going on around the vehicle.
It's sad that you aren't able to grasp the reality of what I am telling
    is the truth.
Again you're incorrect. Don't worry about it, it works for me and it
has for years and will continue to do so for years to come.

  7. My ancient automatic Civic has a rear wiper/washer that actually still
works but it's just something else that will break. I could well do
    without either.

Oh, it IS undercover. It's cleverly disguised as a Toyota when it's really
    a Tercel.

    Back at ya.

Ah, and you can see someone directly behind you who's, shall we say,
    10 feet away?

There's a reason those 18 wheelers have signs on them that say "if you
can't see my mirrors, I can't see you."

    See my reply in aah.

Unless you are craning all over the place, there is no way you can see
someone who', say 15 feet from your rear end. I'm not talking about
to use for backing, that's what the neck and rear window are for (oh,
wait, you don't have one), I'm talking about slow speed manuvering.

NASCAR cars don't have side mirrors.

Man, those take some getting used to. Had one in the BMW I kind of
raced a couple of years back (thanks to some rule changes, "kind of"
is the operative phrase). It took me several hours of intense driving
to get past the sectional point of view they offer.

I can see most of my 16' utility trailer in both my left and right mirrors
when I am towing it. I'll admit that I still use the rear view mirror as a
third source of rearward vision. The more you can see the better off you
    are.

Tinting it dark enough that one can't see in or out of it is the same
as removing the useless piece of glass.
