I'm buying a car for the first time and I'm interested in the RSX or
Celica based on the looks of them (superficial, I know.) So I went to
the edmunds website to compare the two, but i was also hoping to get
opinions and feedback from real live people such as yourselves as
    well!

    Thanks!

Well, I'm not a real live person, but IMHO, both are very nice
sporty coupes that combine reliability, value, handling,
performance and a modicum of utility. Well, performance-wise, at
least the GTS version of the Celica (though the engines peakiness
might annoy). And either, but especially, Type S version of the
    RSX.

Do note that the Celica is being discontinued in favor of the
Scion TC, another nice car, even better value, but somewhat less
sporting than the above. Toyota will continue to make a few
Celicas till mid next year. So if you do get one, drive a HARD
    bargain!

In this class, I'd prefer the MINI. But it does risk less
reliability and a much smaller dealer network.

Also check out consumerguide.com, an excellent general source.

Well I've heard that Toyota announced 2005 will be the last year for the
Celica. That might make finding spare parts a little scarce down the road,
or at least, increase their price. Just something to consider.

Unless you like driving ALL the time, an RSX type S is the way to go. The
Celica GT-S is a really nice, comfortable car but there's very little torque
to work with making launches less than fun. Some find its 6 speed difficult
to operate. Since 2005 is the last year for the Celica, you may be able to
get a good deal. An SVT Focus is better than either one and at a better
price too. I'd drive 'em all to see what YOU think since it is your $$.
